I want Pillars Nutrition to be for everybody.

That was always the idea—to make support and learning as affordable and accessible as I can. Learn is part of keeping that promise.

It’s a place where we share useful information around nutrition, movement, recovery, stress and looking after yourself when life gets busy.

It’s free to explore, and it always will be.

Our promise to you: the more people who join our Basecamp Tier, the cheaper that Tier becomes, and the more free information we can share.
Pillars was always about giving back, not taking more.

We’ve started Nutrition 101 with carbs, using plates from my own kitchen to explain portions, fuel and why our weight moves around. We don't want you to be scared of Carbs, but it helps to understand their makeup and how they work.

Regarding Learn and Pillars, we would really like you to help shape what comes next.

What would you like us to write about?
What’s confusing you?
Has something you’ve read or been told left you worried or unsure what to believe?
Do you want us to speak live at an event, at your workplace, or at your local club?

Leave a question in the comments or send us a message.
You don’t need the right words, just tell us what’s on your mind.

Have a look around Learn and let me know what would help you:
https://pillarsnutrition.com/learn/

And if you know someone who might find it useful, please share it with them.

One of my biggest nutrition lessons over the last couple of years? Fibre.

With my training background, you might expect me to talk about protein, maybe even carb cycling. But learning more about fibre has changed how I think about everyday meals.

We have written a free guide with simple meal ideas, photographs from my own kitchen, and an explanation of where gut health and fermented foods fit in.

My starting point?
Give fibre three chances each day: breakfast, lunch and your evening meal.
Choose one easy change and build from there.

30/09/2026

This morning gave me a lot to think about. 💙

I attended a breakfast event at The Movement Centre, only my second time representing Pillars Nutrition as its owner and head coach. I was incredibly proud to talk about what we are building, but what really stayed with me was hearing about the work this team does.

Their 30 for 30 campaign celebrates 30 years of helping children, with a goal of raising £45,000 by the end of the year to fund 30 specialist standing frames.
But realistically, over 50 children are on their waiting list.

Each frame costs £1,500 and enables one child to begin their Targeted Training journey.

Seeing the equipment and hearing what that support can mean for children and their families was incredibly humbling.
Movement, standing upright, taking a step.
Things many of us do every day without a second thought, and at times complain about.

I’ll be honest, I felt quite emotional. As I was writing this post.

Starting Pillars has brought its own challenges, and I spend plenty of time thinking about them. This morning made me pause, look beyond my own worries and appreciate things I can so easily take for granted.

Curtis Langley, it was lovely to better understand the work you do at The Movement Centre.
You are an incredible person, we are lucky to have you as a friend and a client.
Thank you to you and everyone at The Movement Centre for being such welcoming hosts, for giving me the opportunity to share Pillars Nutrition, and for opening my eyes to the difference you’re making.

I met two amazing trustees, Alison and Katrina, both keen outdoor rowers, as well as other employees at The Movement Centre: Claire(s), Nicky, Lynne, and Ann. Thank you for what you all do at the Movement Centre 🙏

B2B: I met up with Kirsty Smallman of J&PR, and Dave Collins from SBC Training.
Thank you both for your wisdom at such an important time in our Pillars journey.

If you can support their 30 for 30 campaign, whether through a donation or simply by sharing their work, please do. Helping more children access this support would be a wonderful way to celebrate those 30 years. 💙

We want to eat well, get stronger, move more freely and feel better for ourselves and the people we love. True?

Most of us already know enough to get started.
We have a reasonable idea of what a balanced meal looks like, and we know moving more and building strength will help.

The challenge we have is that life is busy.
We’re tired.
Everyone needs something from us.
That gap between knowing and doing is a big part of why I created Pillars Nutrition

I’ve been listening to Angela Duckworth new book, Situated (https://click.pillarsnutrition.uk/Situated), which follows her first book, Grit, a book I absolutely loved.

I’m out and about a lot, getting as much movement into my day as I can, and Audible has been a game changer for me.
I struggle to find time to sit down and read; I would fall asleep because of my early starts, but listening while I’m walking/working means I get through books I might otherwise never get around to.

That’s an example of this in practice:
Pairing something I want to do or learn 🧠 with something I’m already doing, moving 🏃‍♂️

And it connects 🖇️ with something I’ve used for years:

I will put reminders where I will constantly encounter them and make the next step easy.

Here are a few examples I shared inside our Pillars App today (https://click.pillarsnutrition.uk/App)

👉🍏 Nutrition
Prepare two or three breakfasts or lunches when you have the energy today.
Put on some music, make it fun, and give yourself time to get organised.
If you track your food, save those meals in Cronometer Pro, which we use in Pillars, or maybe it's MyFitnessPal, so logging them is easy too.

👉💪 Strength
Get your gym kit ready tonight before going to bed.
Decide on your session before you go to Active8 gym (Other gyms are available 🤣)
When the time comes, you’ve already made those decisions.
You can get going.

👉🧘 Mobility
Leave your yoga mat somewhere annoyingly visible!
Have two mats visible, one upstairs, one downstairs.
Link a few minutes of movement to something you already do, like listening to your favourite podcast or putting the kettle on.

Now, this bit is important:

Take an honest look at what keeps pulling you away from your goals.

For many of us, that’s the phone 📱
We pick it up for one thing and twenty minutes disappear!

Struggling with that doesn’t make you weak.
You don’t have to keep testing your willpower against an endless stream of things competing for your attention!

Put that mobile out of reach for the time you’ve set aside.
Silence unnecessary notifications.
Let important calls through if you need to be contactable.

Ask yourself: “Is what I’m doing right now helping me do what I intended?”

Today, choose one action you want to make easier.

👉 One useful reminder.
👉 One less obstacle.
👉 Give yourself a fairer chance.

🌟 PILLARS CLIENT SPOTLIGHT: Curtis Langley 🌟

“Proud of progress.”
Curtis posted this photo yesterday with those words.

And he has every right to be.
On 23 February, Curtis began tracking with Pillars Nutrition on Cronometer Pro

Seven months later, he is 15.2kg lighter.
What does that number mean without context?

Pick up 15kg in weight and hold it in your hands.
Feel what it weighs.

Then try to comprehend that this is the amount of weight Curtis is no longer carrying around with him every day.

That is an extraordinary achievement.

Curtis is a proud member and run leader with
Next March, he will take on his first ultra, the 32-mile Castle 2 Castle with

He is already an experienced runner who supports and leads other people on club runs. But one of the most important interventions in his own journey was also one of the hardest to introduce:

Strength and conditioning.

Walking into Active8 gym, learning what to do and developing confidence in a completely different environment required Curtis to become a beginner again.

This matters because our goal has never been simply to make the number on the scales smaller.

Within that 15.2kg loss, we want to target as much fat loss as possible while preserving and, where possible, developing muscle, strength, and physical capability.

Curtis’s original target was 100kg, and he is still working towards it.
But goals have a habit of changing as we change.

15.2kg down. Stronger. More capable. Still progressing.

Apparently, I cannot just write a “quick post” about iron.

I tried.

I’ve spent a slightly ridiculous amount of time going down the iron rabbit hole… and this is the result.

A new, completely free Pillars guide covering food, blood testing, symptoms and the additional considerations for women and runners.

This is also a glimpse of what we are building inside the Pillars Academy: not a folder of random PDFs, not AI, not Google, but a living library of practical, evidence-led resources connected to real coaching.

If you’d like to learn more, please drop me a message; we would love to help.

I used to measure components for £100 million-plus Eurofighters and commercial aircraft wings.

Now I measure Jacq’s Bran Flakes using a £12 kitchen scale from Amazon.

The tolerances are wider, but the domestic consequences are considerably more dangerous.

Combine a former Metrologist, a slightly obsessive brain and a nutrition qualification, and living with me must be an absolute joy!

Poor Jacq cannot even pour herself a peaceful breakfast without hearing:

“Do you realise how many grams of Bran Flakes you’ve got there, my love?”

The suggested serving was 30g, which we both agreed probably would not touch the sides!!
Kellogg's Variety Packs?
How many boxes at once did you have when on holiday?!!

Jacq thought she had poured herself double.
So, naturally, out came the scales!
It was 109g.

What she believed would be 300 to 325 calories with whole milk was actually approaching 500 calories.
In Metrology terms, her uncertainty budget was blown.

In Nutrition terms, so was the calorie deficit she thought she had created.

Bran Flakes are not bad. Whole milk is not bad.
Jacq did absolutely nothing wrong.

The point is how easily our eyes can deceive us.

Even experts struggle. One controlled study found that dietitians underreported their intake by an average of 223 calories per day.

Other research has found that people underreport by approximately 12–20%, even when completing structured dietary recalls.

Then consider the other side.
Wearables are useful for spotting patterns, but their calorie-burn estimates can also be significantly inaccurate.

We can underestimate what goes in while overestimating what goes out. Sounds familiar?! 🤣

Suddenly, the calorie deficit we thought we had created has disappeared. And that is meal 1 of the day!!

Tracking does not need to be forever.
Sometimes weighing your normal portions for a few days simply helps recalibrate your eyes.

That is why at Pillars Nutrition our coaches use Cronometer Pro, and we suggest to our clients to use Cronometer.

Not punishment. Not judgement. Just useful information.

If your weight and measurements have genuinely stopped changing, ask yourself:

"Am I achieving the calorie deficit I think I am?"
Before questioning your body, check your assumptions.

Over the last couple of weeks, one thing has come up repeatedly with clients:

"Tim - I am just not hungry"

The recent hot weather has made it difficult to eat enough.
My fav solution is to build a plate that actually makes you want to eat.

I grew up with a dad who loved a traditional ploughman's lunch.
This is my Pillars version - packed with colour, flavour and variety.

Today's Pillars Power Plate (550–600 kcal)

Mackerel (Omega-3s – support heart & brain health)
Eggs pimped with Egg Whites (Complete protein – supports muscle repair)
Butter Beans still in their juice (Fibre – supports gut health)
Well-seasoned Avocado (Potassium – supports muscle function)
Tomatoes fresh from the garden (Lycopene – antioxidant protection)
Washed raw Cavolo Nero (Vitamin K – supports bone health)
Red Onion (Quercetin – antioxidant support)
Beetroot (Natural nitrates – support blood flow)
Garlic (Allicin – supports heart health)
Fresh Ginger (Gingerol – supports recovery)
Sauerkraut & Kimchi (Fermented – supports gut bacteria)

One plate provides 50–55g of protein, around 15–17g of fibre, healthy fats, vitamins, minerals and a huge variety of plant compounds.

Protein alternatives, it never gets boring:

Tofu (Complete protein – supports muscle repair)
Tempeh (High in protein & naturally fermented – supports gut health)
Edamame Beans (Complete protein – rich in fibre)
Lentils (Protein & fibre – support fullness)
Chickpeas (Protein & fibre – support gut health)
Halloumi (Protein & calcium – supports bone health)

At Pillars Nutrition, we first help clients understand **energy balance**.
Energy balance is the practice of intentionally managing your body weight.
Certainly not gaining, but not losing.
Simply learning how to fuel your body while staying in control.

Healthy eating isn't about perfection. Think 80/20, but 80% being good!
It's about making the healthy choice the easiest choice.

20/04/2026

Nutrition shouldn’t be complicated…

But for a lot of us, it is.

Years of chasing the “perfect” diet. Trying to figure out how to fuel your body, what to eat, what to avoid…
Is dairy bad? Is protein really that important? Do I need collagen?

Now more than ever, we’re bombarded with information, and separating fact from fiction can feel like a full-time job.
One most people simply don’t have time for.

That’s exactly why Tim has made it his mission to cut through the noise.

Through years of research, education, coaching, and real-world experience, he’s helped our members at Pillars get real, sustainable results - without the confusion.

If you’re tired of second-guessing your nutrition and just want a simple, proven approach that works…

Send us a message or book a consultation today and let us help you take the guesswork out of your nutrition.
