As the weather gets cooler and we swap our sandals for closed shoes, trainers and boots, you may find that familiar foot problems start to creep back in.

👣 Corns, callus, thickened nails and pressure discomfort can become more noticeable as our footwear changes. Shoes and boots that rub, squeeze or put extra pressure on certain areas can leave your feet feeling sore and uncomfortable.

Kids shoes need regular updates!

From ages 1 to 8, children’s feet go through some incredible changes! Here’s a quick guide to understanding what’s happening beneath those tiny shoes:

👶 Ages 1–3 Years:
Rapid Growth! Feet grow about 2–3 cm (0.8–1.2 inches) per year—by age 1, they’re nearly half their adult size!

Shoe Shopping Alert: Kids this age might need 4–5 new pairs of shoes each year to keep up! 😅

👧 Ages 3–8 Years:
Arch Development Begins: Around age 3, the foot’s arch starts to form—avoid shoes with heavy support and look for flat, foot-shaped options! 🦶

Slower Growth: Shoes might last longer now, but 2–3 new pairs a year are still common as they grow. 🌱
Whether you’re a parent, teacher, or just curious, understanding these changes can help keep little feet healthy and happy! 💚

🦶💚 International Podiatry Day 💚🦶

Today is a great opportunity to recognise the important work carried out by podiatrists and foot health professionals in helping people look after their feet, stay active and maintain their independence.

As a Foot Health Practitioner, I provide general foot health care within my own scope of practice, helping clients with a range of common foot health concerns and supporting them to keep their feet healthy, comfortable and pain-free.

But being a Foot Health Practitioner doesn’t mean working alone. 🤝

I’m fortunate to have a fantastic network of fellow Foot Health Practitioners and podiatrists who I can turn to for advice, support and professional discussion when needed.

I believe that knowing when something is outside my scope of practice is just as important as knowing how to safely treat the conditions that are within it.

Where necessary, I will refer clients on to a podiatrist or other appropriate healthcare professional for further assessment and treatment. Having that professional network means I can always seek advice when I’m unsure and make sure my clients receive the most appropriate care for their individual needs.

🦶 Good foot health is about teamwork, knowing your limits and putting the client first.

I’m proud to be part of a supportive foot health community where different professionals can work alongside each other, share knowledge and ultimately help people keep moving with confidence.

🩺 Podiatrist / Chiropodist

A podiatrist (formerly known as a chiropodist) is a regulated healthcare professional who has completed a university degree in podiatry and is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

They can assess and manage a wide range of foot and lower-limb conditions, including more complex medical problems, and can work alongside other healthcare professionals where necessary.

👣 Foot Health Practitioner — that’s me!

As a Foot Health Practitioner (FHP), I specialise in routine and preventative foot health care.

I provide professional foot care in the comfort of your own home, helping keep feet healthy, comfortable and pain free.

My treatments include:

✔️ Callus care
✔️ Ingrown nail management
