In July 2024, a study published in JAMA Psychiatry found that people with the highest gratitude scores had a 9% lower risk of dying over the following 4 years compared to those with the lowest across causes including cardiovascular disease and cancer.
The study drew on data from nearly 49,000 women and the association held even after controlling for physical health and economic circumstances.
Gratitude also measurably increases serotonin and dopamine, and research by Robert Emmons found that writing down just 3 things you’re grateful for a few times a week raised happiness levels by 25%. It doesn’t need to be profound. It just needs to be honest.
So, what are the 3 things you’re grateful today? 💙
