STIs may not show up on tests straight away after s*x – this delay is known as the window period, Any time after this, test results are reliable.

For chlamydia and gonorrhoea, the window period is 2 weeks. These tests are done on a urine sample (men) or a vaginal swab (women).

Approaching menopause? Don't stop contraception too soon.

Even though fertility declines with age, pregnancy can still occur until menopause is reached. If you've not had a period for 12 months if you're over 50 or 24 months if you're under 50, contraception is still needed to prevent an unplanned pregnancy.
