When knowing what to do isn't the same as being able to do it

There are days when you know exactly what needs doing.

You can see the jobs sitting there.

You might even have been thinking about them all day.

But somehow… you just can't get started.

For people with ADHD, a lack of clear direction, prompts or structure can make even straightforward tasks feel overwhelming. It's not necessarily that you don't want to do something. Sometimes your brain needs that external prompt, that first step, or someone helping you break the task down.

And then there are the other things life can throw into the mix.

Chronic illness.
COPD.
Pain.
Poor sleep.
Fatigue.
Medication.
Stress.
Low mood.

Any one of those can reduce your available mental and physical energy. Put several together and something that looks like a five-minute job from the outside can feel like climbing a mountain.

That's why “Why haven't you done it?” isn't always the most helpful question.

Sometimes a better question is:

“What would help you get started?”

Maybe it's a reminder.

Maybe it's breaking one big task into three small ones.

Maybe it's someone giving you a clear first step.

Maybe it's simply understanding that today, your capacity isn't the same as yesterday.

Good support isn't about doing everything for someone.

It's about helping remove the barriers that are stopping them from doing it themselves.

And sometimes, that little bit of direction and understanding can make a massive difference.

Your ability to function isn't measured by how easy something looks to somebody else.

Workforce wellbeing, built around the reality of transport.

That’s what DriverWell is.

Because transport isn't a 9-to-5 office environment.

It’s early starts and late finishes.
It’s long hours behind the wheel.
It’s pressure to keep moving.
It’s fatigue, isolation and time away from home.
It’s loading bays, depots, yards, workshops and roadside breakdowns.
It’s drivers, planners, warehouse teams, mechanics, managers and everyone in between.

And sometimes, it's simply getting through a difficult day and still having to do the job safely.

Too often, workplace wellbeing is designed around the workplace that exists on paper.

We wanted to build something around the workplace that actually exists.

DriverWell brings wellbeing, health, practical support and workforce insight together in one place, designed specifically around the realities of professional transport.

For the individual, it means access to support without having to wait for permission.

For operators, it means a practical way to take wellbeing and duty of care seriously, while understanding where pressures can affect their workforce.

Because looking after people shouldn't be an add-on.

It should be part of how we run transport.

DriverWell is now ORCHA Assured. Bronze, UK and EU.

Independently assessed across Clinical Assurance, Data Privacy, and Usability and Accessibility.

For anyone outside digital health, ORCHA are the organisation the NHS and others turn to when they need to know whether a health or wellbeing product stands up to scrutiny. They do not take your word for it. They go through it.

We asked for that on purpose.

If you are a transport manager, a compliance lead or an association weighing up whether to put a wellbeing platform in front of your drivers, it sounds like your first question is a fair one. Is it actually any good, or is it another logo on a noticeboard?

You no longer have to take my answer for it. Someone independent has been through the clinical content, the data handling, and whether a tired driver can genuinely use it on a phone in a cab.

DriverWell remains free at the point of use for professional drivers and transport workers. That has not changed and it is not going to.

Thank you to Harling Kaye for getting us here.

How would it change your conversations internally if driver wellbeing support came with this level of evidence behind it?

Eight short courses are now live on DriverWell, and I want to be straight about what they are and what they are not.

Operator Licence Awareness. Drivers' Hours and Tachographs. Road Transport Working Time. Post-Incident Management and Investigation. Safe Loading and Cargo Security. Bridge Strikes Awareness. Yard and Warehouse Safety. Eco-Driving and Fuel Awareness.

Source-linked. Self-paced.

Right now they are not CPD Certified, not RoSPA approved and not Driver CPC training. Those marks will only go on the site once the approval processes are complete. We are working towards that, and until it is earned you will not see a badge on our pages pretending otherwise.

It sounds like a lot of people have sat through training that ticked a box and taught them nothing. It seems like the real worry is different though. It is standing in a yard at four in the morning while someone asks you questions you were never shown the answers to.

That uncertainty carries a weight, and it follows people home. Understanding the basics will not fix a hard shift, but it does take one thing off the pile.

What would it change for your team to know where they stand before the pressure arrives?

Free wellbeing support for professional drivers and all transport staff. Mood tracking, stress relief, peer support, crisis resources, DVLA guidance and more.

Today is World Su***de Prevention Day.
The theme for 2026 is Changing the Narrative on Su***de. The call to action is three words. Start the conversation.
In transport, that is often the hardest conversation there is.
It sounds like a lot of our industry still quietly believes that admitting you are struggling means admitting you are not up to the job. And it seems like we have built an unspoken rule about who is allowed to say it out loud.
The cab is one place a person can hide how they are really doing for twelve hours at a stretch. So is a transport office at half past six in the evening. So is a warehouse floor. So is the seat of the director who holds the O licence, takes the call at eleven at night, signs off the wages and tells everyone they are fine.
Long hours. Nights away from home. Pressure from every direction and very few places to put any of it down. That does not check your job title first.
That is why the Professional Drivers Support Network exists, and why it grew into DriverWell. Free for everyone in this industry, from the newest driver to the person who owns the company. Free for life. No gatekeeping, no forms, no manager needing to sign anything off. Support that sits outside the employment relationship, so nobody has to weigh up their job against their wellbeing before they reach out.
I am also proud to be an Ambassador for Grassroots Su***de Prevention, whose work is built on a simple idea. Ordinary people, given the right words, save lives.
So today, rather than a poster on a canteen wall:
What would it take for the quietest person in your business to feel they could say it out loud?
How would you know if your transport manager, your planner or your MD was struggling right now?
Who have you not heard from in a while?
Changing the narrative starts with one conversation. It might as well be yours.
If today is hard for you, Samaritans are on 116 123, free, any hour. Or text SHOUT to 85258.

DriverWell has been live since February.
A lot of you have seen the posts. Far fewer of you have told me what you actually think of the thing itself.
It seems like there's a quiet assumption in this industry that wellbeing tools get built for drivers rather than with them. I would rather DriverWell not become another example of that.
So this is an open invitation. Go and have a proper look at driverwell.co.uk. Not a polite glance, a real one. Click into the sections. Try the learning suite. Look at the post-incident support, the Women in Transport section, the screening tools. Then come back and tell me what you found.
Good or bad. Bad is more useful.
What did you expect to find that wasn't there?
How would it need to work for you to reach for it on a genuinely bad day?
What would have to be true before you'd recommend it to a driver you were worried about?
We are working through ORCHA accreditation at the moment, the independent standard for health and care apps. That process asks hard questions about clinical safety, data protection and usability. Your questions should be every bit as hard.
It sounds like a lot of people in transport have been let down before by things that launched loudly and delivered very little. Fair enough. I would be sceptical too.
DriverWell is free for professional drivers and transport workers, and individual support stays free for life. That part does not change. What can change is the platform itself, but only if enough of you tell me where it falls short.

Free wellbeing support for everyone in transport — professional drivers, warehouse staff, mechanics, dispatchers, office staff, support professionals, and operators. Mood tracking, AI support, stress tools, and crisis resources.

YDay 6. Driver Health Week finishes today. The job does not.
Tomorrow morning there will be drivers out there who saw no pop-up stand, read no post, and would not have had the time to stop if they had.
That is not a failure of the week. It is the reason the week exists.
It sounds like awareness campaigns get judged on the noise they make. The better test is what is still standing in November, when nobody is posting about it.
For our part, DriverWell stays free for every professional driver and transport worker in the UK, for life. No employer sign-off, no expiry, no catch. Live across the Certas Energy TheStop network and anywhere with a phone signal.
What is the one thing from this week your business intends to still be doing next month?
