π World Mental Health Day π
π For many older adults, living with physical health conditions such as chronic pain, heart disease, arthritis, diabetes, reduced mobility, or long-term illness can have a significant impact on mental wellbeing. As physical health challenges increase, so can the risk of depression, anxiety, loneliness, and social isolation.
πThe World Health Organization notes that many older people experience both physical and mental health conditions at the same time, with approximately 15% of adults aged 70 and over living with a mental disorder.
πAlso, as well as ensuring our older generation can access their food, have help to get washed and dressed and take their medications, let's prioritise ensuring they are engaging in hobbies / interests and fun. Can they access a day centre or club? Can they get to see friends and loved ones? Do they need modifications to continue with engaging in their favourite hobbies such as arts and crafts or baking?
πParticipating in these meaningful activiites is part of what Occupational Therapists believe support a person's optimum well-being.
