Feeding your baby should feel like a connection, not a struggle. If you’re tired, unsure or worried about how feeding is going, you don’t have to work it out alone. I’m here to support you, in your own home and at your own pace.

How it works

• A telephone consultation first. We talk through your concerns so I understand what’s happening for you and your baby.
• A 90–120 minute home visit. I come to you, so you can stay comfortable on your sofa while we work through your feeding concerns together, unhurried.
• Your personal feeding plan. After the visit I’ll text you a summary of what we discussed and a clear plan to follow.
• Two weeks of follow-up. I’ll check in by text for up to two weeks, and you can reach me between contacts whenever you need reassurance.

Every plan is built around your family’s needs and can be reviewed at any time as things change. All support is evidence-based, so you can trust that you and your baby are receiving the highest standard of care.

You deserve to feel confident and supported. Get in touch today to book your consultation:

It’s called the Golden Hour, and most parents don’t hear about it until they’re already in the birth room.

The Golden Hour is the first uninterrupted hour after birth, when baby is placed skin-to-skin on mum’s chest. It’s so much more than a lovely moment. It helps baby settle into the world physically and emotionally.

✨ Why it matters:

• Bonding: Skin-to-skin releases oxytocin, deepening the connection between you and your baby.
• Stability: Your chest helps regulate baby’s temperature, breathing and heart rate — a natural warmer and stabiliser.
• Breastfeeding: Baby’s feeding instincts are at their strongest now. Left undisturbed, many babies find the breast and latch on their own.
• Calm: Skin-to-skin lowers stress hormones for both of you.
• Milk supply: The hormones released support colostrum flow and help build your supply.

✨ What it looks like:

• Baby placed chest-to-chest with mum straight after birth
• Dried but not bathed, wearing just a hat, with a blanket over their back
• Non-urgent checks delayed where it’s safe to do so
• Time for baby to crawl, nuzzle and latch in their own way
• Low lights, soft voices and as few interruptions as possible

💛 A gentle note:
The Golden Hour isn’t always possible. Sometimes mum or baby needs immediate medical care, and that always comes first. Skin-to-skin can begin as soon as you’re both stable, and it’s never “too late” to benefit from it.

🤰 Expecting a baby? Add the Golden Hour to your birth preferences and talk it through with your midwife. If you’d like to feel confident about feeding before baby arrives, my antenatal feeding preparation sessions cover this and much more, in the comfort of your own home.

Many parents quietly experience a sudden rush of sadness, anxiety, hopelessness or even a strange “homesick” feeling in the moments before their milk starts to flow. Then, almost as quickly as it arrived, it’s gone. This is called D-MER – Dysphoric Milk Ejection Reflex.

✨ What is it?
D-MER is a physiological response, not a psychological one. It’s thought to be linked to a brief dip in dopamine as your milk ejection reflex (let-down) is triggered. It isn’t caused by anything you’re thinking or feeling about feeding your baby.

✨ What does it feel like?
• A sudden negative feeling just before let-down
• Usually lasts from a few seconds up to around 2 minutes
• Can happen when feeding, pumping or during spontaneous let-downs
• Ranges from mild unease to intense despair

✨ What D-MER is NOT
It isn’t postnatal depression, it doesn’t mean you dislike breastfeeding, and it’s not a sign that something is wrong with your bond with your baby. The feelings are tied to the let-down itself and lift once milk is flowing.

✨ What can help?
• Simply knowing what it is – many parents say this alone makes a huge difference
• Noting when it happens and how it feels
• Gentle distraction during let-down (a snack, a drink, music, a chat)
• Telling your partner or support network so they understand
• For many, it eases as the weeks and months go on

If your feelings last beyond let-down, or you’re feeling low much of the time, please speak to your GP or health visitor – you deserve support for that too.

💜 You don’t have to navigate this alone. If you think you might be experiencing D-MER, or feeding just doesn’t feel right, I can help you make sense of it and find a way forward that works for you and your baby.
