Last weekend, our Events Organiser, Verity Eastman, took part in a Forces Wives Challenge weekend in Devon — wearing two hats! Here’s what she had to say:
“As the wife of a veteran Welsh Guardsman, I was there as one of the women taking part, but also wearing my Team Forces hat.
I head up our UK events, bringing sponsors and the Armed Forces community together, but rarely get to experience first-hand the difference our sponsors’ support makes.
This weekend showed me just why Forces Wives Challenge is so valuable to current and veteran military spouses — bringing women together, building confidence, creating friendships and encouraging everyone to take on a challenge, whatever that looks like.
Our challenge took us around Burgh Island and along the beautiful South Devon coast. By the end of the weekend I’d clocked up 52,000 steps — and my knees certainly knew about it!
But challenge isn’t about being the fittest or fastest. It’s about stepping outside your routine, trying something different and encouraging each other along the way.
With life normally a constant juggle of work, children and everything else, having time outdoors just for me — to walk, talk and think — was rather special.
There was also a lovely full-circle moment. Three of the women were friends from my very first married posting in Colchester in 2010. Sixteen years later, we were walking the Devon coast together!
I came home tired, but with more headspace, new friendships, old ones rekindled and a much deeper appreciation of the impact of this support.”
A big thank you to our Team Forces sponsors, whose generosity helps us support organisations like Forces Wives Challenge and create opportunities like this for the Armed Forces community.
