Dog A.I.D. (Assistance In Disability) Please support our life-changing work by donating via Just Giving - https://www.justgiving.com/charity/dogaid

The main difference between Dog AID and many other assistance groups is that the disabled owner learns how to train their own dog. Generally all the training is carried out by the owner with supervision from a specially trained instructor. Dog AID training is designed to give a measure of independence and provide owners with the knowledge to train other tasks. This allows them to adapt the training to their own needs with an instructor who is able to give advice as required

🌿🐾 Nugget’s garden centre adventure! 🐾🌿

Nugget had a lovely visit to the garden centre and was such a little superstar! 💛

She waited so patiently in the queue at the café and then settled so beautifully while her Mum and family enjoyed their food. ☕️🥪🐾 She showed such lovely manners and stayed calm despite all the exciting sights, sounds and smells around her.

Nugget knows that being an Assistance Dog means being able to settle wherever she goes, and she did a fantastic job today! 🐕‍🦺✨

We’re so proud of you, Nugget! What a good girl you are. 💕🌸

🐶⏰ Don’t forget to put your clocks back an hour tonight! ⏰🐶

The clocks are going back, which means our four-legged friends get an extra hour of snoozing! 💤🐾

But beware… your dog’s dinner clock might not have got the memo! 😂🍽️ If they’re usually waiting by their bowl at 5pm, they may be expecting dinner at the new 5pm — even though their tummy thinks it’s 6pm!

And let’s not forget breakfast! 🍳🐾 You might find your furry alarm clock is up and ready for breakfast an hour earlier than expected, wondering why you’re still in bed! 😂⏰

So don’t be surprised if you get a very persuasive pair of puppy eyes earlier than usual. 🥺🐕

Clocks back, paws up, and dinner… whenever the dog says so! ❤️🐾

✨ Throwback Thursday! ✨

We’ve got a little trip down memory lane for you this week! 💙

We have a very special story to share with you from one of our clients and trainers, Jodie. She has kindly sent us some beautiful words about her very first Assistance Dog, Buddy. ❤️

Jodie tells us:

“Buddy started his assistance dog training in 2009, we also did fundraising at the local supermarket, at local dog shows and volunteered in the Dog A.I.D. office once a week.

Buddy retired from public work early due to his health, later diagnosed as Addisons Disease, but he enjoyed doing his task work at home for many more years, including fetching the post and emptying the washing machine.

His best known and favourite party trick was to open the fridge, fetch a can of b**r and shut the door behind him, much to the amusement of friends and family!” 🐾🤣

It’s always lovely to look back see how far we’ve come and remember the amazing people and dogs who have been part of our journey. 🥰

Thank you so much to Jodie for sharing Buddy’s story with us.

Mutz sent this wonderful message to us recently - great typing Mutz!

"Hey friends at Dog A.I.D., since Susanne is too busy to tell you what we have been up to I thought I'd send you a quick bark...

We went to the local Lions Charity Dog show because I had to defend the Champion Sausage Catcher title. The naughty judge threw the sausage when I was looking away so I only got third place 😖, will keep my eyes fixed on them next year don't worry!

We entered 2 more classes. One was Best Veteran Dog (I am not a veteran yet!!!), apparently at 8 that is what I am at this show. Well, I could have told them I was too young as all the winners were soooo much older than me, so I'm pleased I didn't win this one.

But the one Susanne was particularly proud of was the Pedigree Sporting Dog Class in which I took second place! The judge said I was a beautifully slim and good conditioned Labrador! What good taste they have.... but they picked a different dog to win first place - humph!

Well, that's it. I thought you should know. Have a nice day with a good long walk. 🐾🐾Mutz”

Thank you for the update Mutz, we are very proud of you and hope you had a sausage as a treat after all that hard work!

🐾 Assistance Dogs come in all shapes and sizes! 🐾

Meet Ralph and Layla — two Assistance Dogs who may look very different, but have something very important in common: they’re the same age and both make an incredible difference to the lives of the people they support. ❤️

Ralph is a magnificent Bernese Mountain Dog weighing in at a whopping 65kg! 🐻

Layla, meanwhile, is a petite Cavapoo at just 6.4kg! 🐶

That’s a difference of more than 58kg — but when it comes to being an amazing Assistance Dog, size really doesn’t matter.

From big paws to little paws, Assistance Dogs come in all shapes, sizes and breeds. What matters is the incredible bond they share with their handlers and the life-changing support they provide every day. 🦮💙

Big or small, every Assistance Dog is pawsome! 🐾
