✨ "The quality of our relationships determines the quality of our lives." - Esther Perel

We often think of mental health as something we manage alone. But some of the most important medicine in our lives is connection.
The people closest to us shape how we feel every day: our partners, friends, family and colleagues. Warm, supportive relationships help us feel safe, understood and resilient. When a relationship feels strained, it can affect our sleep, our confidence and our sense of who we are.

The encouraging news is that relationships can grow. When we understand ourselves and each other more deeply, including how we attach, communicate and protect ourselves, we can build connections that nourish us rather than drain us.

Tracey-Anne works with couples and individuals who want healthier, more fulfilling relationships. Counselling and psychotherapy help clients explore their patterns and what they truly need. Hypnotherapy, Rewind Therapy and the Flash Technique can ease the anxiety, past experiences and emotional responses that sometimes get in the way of closeness.

🍂 Chinese Medicine Tips for Autumn 🍂

As the days become shorter, the temperature drops and the leaves begin to fall, Traditional Chinese Medicine sees autumn as a time to gently transition from the outward energy of summer into a more inward and reflective season.

In Chinese Medicine, autumn is associated with the Metal element and the Lungs and Large Intestine. It’s a season of letting go, creating space and preparing our bodies and minds for the quieter months ahead.

Here are a few simple ways to support yourself this autumn:
Keep warm – As the weather cools, protect yourself from cold and wind, particularly around your neck and chest. A warm scarf and extra layer can make a difference.
Choose warming, nourishing foods. Autumn is a good time to move away from lots of cold and raw foods and enjoy warm, cooked meals such as soups, stews, roasted vegetables and nourishing grains.
Take care of your Lungs – Fresh air and gentle breathing exercises can help you connect with the season. Try taking a mindful walk outdoors and paying attention to your breathing.
Make space to slow down – Autumn encourages us to turn our attention inwards. Give yourself permission to rest, reflect and create some quiet time in your day.
Think about letting go – Just as the trees release their leaves, autumn can be a good time to consider what you might be ready to let go of, whether that’s old habits, stress or things that no longer serve you.

And remember, looking after yourself doesn’t have to mean making huge changes. Sometimes small seasonal adjustments can help us feel more comfortable and supported as the seasons change.

World menopause day

World menopause day

Today is World Menopause Day. Current UK data suggests that 80-90% of women experience symptoms during their peri/menopausal years, with 25% describing them as severe. Beyond the well-known hot flushes and night sweats, symptoms such as anxiety, low mood, brain fog, and disrupted sleep can leave women feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, and disconnected from themselves. These challenges often extend into family life, relationships, and the workplace.

As awareness of menopause continues to grow, so does the recognition that women benefit from access to a range of supportive approaches. Acupuncture is increasingly sought by women looking for holistic support through their peri/menopausal years, helping them manage symptoms, enhance wellbeing, and feel more balanced and supported.

The Liver & Liver Qi Stagnation
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Liver has an important role in keeping the smooth flow of qi (energy) throughout the body. When qi flows freely, we often feel more balanced, flexible and able to move through life with ease.
But when qi becomes stagnant, things can start to feel a little stuck.

Liver qi stagnation is a Chinese Medicine pattern that can be associated with feelings such as frustration, irritability, feeling tense or emotionally overwhelmed. Physically, someone may experience tension in the body, headaches, digestive discomfort, bloating or symptoms that seem to fluctuate with stress or hormonal changes.

Stress and a busy lifestyle are often considered important factors that can contribute to this feeling of being “stuck”. Even when we know we need to slow down, it can be difficult to switch off.
How to support the smooth flow of qi.

Movement is a great place to start. Gentle exercise such as walking, stretching, yoga or simply getting outside can help us move both physically and mentally.

Making time to breathe, rest and do things that you enjoy is also important. Regular meals, good sleep and creating some space in your day can all help support your overall wellbeing.

From a Five Element Acupuncture perspective, treatment looks at you as an individual rather than simply treating one symptom. Acupuncture may be used to support relaxation, reduce tension and help bring the body back towards a greater sense of balance.
Liver Qi stagnation is a Traditional Chinese Medicine concept; it isn't the same thing as having a medical problem with your physical liver.

If you’ve been feeling tense, stressed, frustrated or like things just aren’t flowing as they should, acupuncture may be worth exploring.

Emotional Wellness Month 🪜

✨ "Story follows state." - Deb Dana, The Polyvagal Theory

Your nervous system is always telling you a story. The question is: which rung of the ladder are you standing on?

Polyvagal theory offers a gentle map for understanding our emotional states.

Picture a ladder:
🟢 At the top: safe and connected. You feel grounded, curious and open to others.
🟠 In the middle: mobilised. Anxiety, frustration or the urge to fight or flee takes over.
🔵 At the bottom: shut down. Numbness, exhaustion, or feeling disconnected from yourself and the world.

We all move up and down the ladder every day and that's completely human. Emotional wellness isn't about staying at the top forever. It's about noticing where you are, understanding it without judgement and learning how to find your way back to safety.

Tracey-Anne's integrative approach brings together counselling and psychotherapy, hypnotherapy, Rewind Therapy and the Flash Technique.

Talking helps clients understand their patterns, while the gentler, calming techniques help the nervous system learn, gradually, that it's safe to climb back up.

Failure gets a bad reputation.
But what if it’s not the end of the road?
What if it’s information?

A mistake can show you what needs to change, what you’ve overlooked, or what you might try differently next time.

The important question isn’t always, “Why did I fail?”

It might be:

“What can I learn from this?”

Because the meaning you give an experience can influence what you do next.

You can repeat the same thing.
You can stop altogether.
Or you can take what you’ve learned and choose a different direction.

So today, instead of focusing only on failure, try asking yourself:

“What did this teach me?”

What’s one thing a mistake has taught you recently?

Share it in the comments, because someone else might need to hear it, and if you'd like to understand more about how your unique mind works, and how that understanding could help you make different choices, get in touch.

Arthritis: When Life Feels Stuck Too.
You know what is interesting about arthritis?
We usually think about the joint itself — pain, stiffness, the fact that opening a jar can suddenly feel like a personal vendetta.
But in Biodecoding and Total Biology, it can be interesting to look at something else too: how much movement, flexibility and freedom do I actually have in my life?
Because sometimes we are not physically stuck first. We are stuck in situations.
We say yes when we mean no. We keep doing things out of duty, not because we want to. We feel responsible for everyone, resentful that nobody notices our needs, yet somehow still refuse help because “I’ll manage”.
Sound familiar?
And then there is the other side: rigidity. Needing things done a certain way. Struggling to change direction. Feeling annoyed when life does not follow the plan we had kindly prepared for it.
Sometimes the question is not only: “Where does it hurt?”
It is also:
Where in my life do I feel restricted, forced to bend, unable to move forward, or quietly furious because I keep doing what I don’t actually want to do?
And maybe the deeper one:
Am I saying yes out loud while my whole body is saying no?
No magic answer here.
But sometimes one honest question is enough to make you think:
“Bloody hell… that might actually be mine.”
