Hormones act as chemical messengers throughout the body, so when they fluctuate, the effects can reach much further than your menstrual cycle.

You may notice changes in:

✨Sleep - Some hormonal shifts can make it harder to fall asleep, stay asleep, or wake feeling refreshed.

✨Mood - Hormones can influence emotional wellbeing, contributing to feeling more sensitive, irritable, anxious, or low at certain times.

✨Energy levels - Feeling motivated and energised one week, then exhausted the next, may be linked to natural hormonal fluctuations.

✨ Digestion - Bloating, changes in appetite, constipation, and digestive discomfort can all be influenced by hormonal changes.

✨Physical comfort - Hormones can affect headaches, breast tenderness, joint aches, muscle tension, and how comfortable your body feels overall.

Understanding these wider effects can help you tune into your body’s patterns and respond with the support, rest, movement or the self-care you need.

Autumn asks something different.

As the days shorten and the evenings draw in, it’s natural to crave things that felt less important in summer.

Warmth, comfort, comfort and time at home.

Nature isn’t pushing forward at full speed now. Trees let go of their leaves. Gardens slow down. The harvest is gathered in.

Perhaps we can take that as our cue too.

Maybe that looks like

πŸ‚ Earlier nights
πŸ‚ Warmer meals
πŸ‚ Gentler exercise
πŸ‚ Less social pressure
πŸ‚ More time to reflect
πŸ‚Creating cosy routines that support rather than drain you

There is wisdom in adapting to the season instead of fighting against it.

Sometimes wellbeing isn’t about adding more. It’s about giving yourself permission to slow down.

The Autumn Equinox marks the official start of autumn and is the point in the year when day and night are roughly equal in length.

From this point onwards, the days gradually become shorter and the nights longer.

This seasonal turning point has long been associated with harvest, gratitude, balance and preparation for the months ahead.

It can be a gentle reminder to pause and check in with yourself.

As nature begins to slow down, what is your mind and body asking for more of? Rest? Nourishment? Movement? Reflection?

In holistic health, we often talk about creating space for healing and restoring balance.

🍁 Giving thanks before eating - harvest season welcomes gratitude ceremonies, believing that appreciation for the land, food and community supported wellbeing and harmony.

🍁 Using seasonal herbs - herbs used for cooking but also for their role in traditional healing practices.

🍁 Bonfires for cleansing and transition - lighting the darker half of the year and symbolically release what was no longer needed.

🍁 Reflection and letting go - many autumn traditions encouraged people to take stock of the year, celebrate what had been achieved and release what was no longer serving them.

🍁 Connecting with nature -harvest-time walks, foraging and spending time outdoors were important seasonal activities.

🍁Preserving foods for winter - fermenting, drying and storing foods. This approach to nourishment is echoed in many holistic health philosophies today.

While modern holistic health isn't based on folklore, many of these ancient seasonal traditions remind us to slow down, reflect, clear what no longer serves us, and prepare ourselves physically and emotionally for the season ahead.

Do any of these resonate with you?

As the days get shorter and darker, it's normal to notice changes in your energy, mood, sleep, and motivation, and your body needs to adjust. ✨

🍁 A few small habits can help make the seasonal transition feel a little gentler:

🍁 Get outside in the morning light to help regulate your body clock and boost alertness

🍁 Regular movement by walking, stretching or gentle exercise to help support both physical and mental wellbeing.

🍁 Stick to consistent routines; regular sleep and meal times can all help the body adapt.

🍁 Create calmer evenings by lowering lights, reducing screen time where possible, and giving yourself permission to slow down.

🍁 Make time for rest and self-care

Remember, you don't have to overhaul your life. Small, consistent actions often make the biggest difference.

When we think about postpartum recovery, it's easy to focus on birth itself, but the body is often adapting to so much more.

πŸ‘‰ Healing and repairing tissues after pregnancy and birth

πŸ‘‰ Months of postural changes from carrying a growing baby

πŸ‘‰ Feeding positions that can leave the neck, shoulders and back feeling strained

πŸ‘‰ Repeatedly lifting, carrying and soothing a baby throughout the day and night

πŸ‘‰ Sleep disruption and fatigue, which can affect how the body feels, moves and recovers

πŸ‘‰ Ongoing hormonal changes that continue well beyond the first few weeks

It's no wonder so many new parents experience aches, tension, and physical exhaustion.

Recovery isn't simply about "bouncing back"; it's about supporting a body that has done something incredible and is still working hard every day. πŸ’—

One of the biggest postpartum myths is that you should be "back to normal" after the first few weeks. 🍼

Postpartum recovery can last many months, and for some women, a year or more.

Recovery isn't just about healing after birth. It also involves hormonal changes, pelvic floor recovery, sleep deprivation, mental wellbeing, and, for many, the ongoing effects of breastfeeding.

Hormones don't simply return to pre-pregnancy levels overnight. Breastfeeding can continue to influence hormone levels for as long as you nurse, and internal healing often continues long after those first few weeks.

Every postpartum journey is different, and there is no deadline for feeling like yourself again.

Your body grew and birthed a baby. Recovery deserves time, patience and support. ✨

The end of summer often brings a sense that it's time to "get back on track". 🍁

Suddenly there's pressure to fall straight back into or reset routines, be more productive, get organised, start new habits, and somehow do it all at once.

Transitions don't have to be rushed; you're allowed to ease into this season with small, steady adjustments. These are often far kinder to your mind and body than trying to overhaul everything overnight.

If September feels a little overwhelming, consider what would support you right now, rather than what you think you should be doing. ✨

As the seasons change, it's normal to notice shifts in your energy levels.

πŸ‘‰ Less daylight can affect sleep and how alert you feel during the day.

πŸ‘‰ Cooler temperatures often encourage us to slow down and rest more.

These changes can also affect mood, with some people feeling less upbeat, more emotional, or needing extra rest and self-care.

If you're feeling a little out of sync, try to be gentle with yourself. Prioritise rest, get outside in daylight when you can, and allow yourself time to settle into the new season. πŸ‚

When routines change, it can feel overwhelming. Perhaps it's the return to school, a busier work schedule or a change in seasons; small, consistent habits can make a big difference.

🍁 Get some daylight earlier in the day

🍁 Keep hydrated throughout the day

🍁 Aim for consistent sleep and wake times

🍁 Ease yourself back into routines rather than trying to change everything at once

Taking care of yourself doesn't have to be all or nothing. Gentle, sustainable changes often last.
