💙 Our Mission

Our mission is to support people with learning disabilities to live fulfilling lives, make their own choices and be active members of their communities.

We believe everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, to have their voices heard, and to have the opportunity to live life on their own terms.

Through person-centred support, we aim to promote independence, build confidence, develop skills and create opportunities for people to pursue their interests, achieve their goals and maintain meaningful relationships.

We are committed to challenging barriers, promoting inclusion and ensuring people with learning disabilities have the same opportunities, rights and choices as everyone else.

Because everyone deserves the opportunity to live the life they choose, with the right support to make it happen. 💙

Its getting HOT!!!!
Hot weather can become dangerous faster than most people expect.

Stay hydrated!!!!
Drink water regularly, even before you feel thirsty.
If you’re sweating heavily for hours, include drinks or foods with electrolytes.
Limit excess alcohol and very caffeinated drinks, which can worsen dehydration.
Keep your body cool
Stay in shaded or air-conditioned places during the hottest hours (usually 11am–4pm).
Wear lightweight, loose-fitting, light-coloured clothing.
Use cool showers, damp cloths, or fans to lower body temperature.
Be careful with physical activity
Exercise early in the morning or later in the evening.
Take frequent breaks if working outdoors.
Never push through dizziness, nausea, or unusual fatigue.

Universal Credit claimants with LCWRA please read.

Some claimants are receiving journal messages inviting them to attend a chat with Jobcentre staff about support to help them return to work or prepare for work.

If you have been found to have Limited Capability for Work and Work Related Activity (LCWRA) and this is confirmed on your Universal Credit payment breakdown in your journal, any work related contact should be voluntary so please don't start stressing.

Carefully read the journal message you receive. Somewhere within the message it should clearly say that taking part is voluntary.

Claimants in the LCWRA group cannot be required to undertake work related activity.

If the message appears to be compulsory or does not state that it is voluntary, respond in your journal and ask your work coach why you are being asked to attend mandatory activity when you have already been assessed as meeting LCWRA criteria.

It is sensible to remind them that your journal confirms you are in the LCWRA group and therefore you are not subject to work related requirements.

You must contact them if it appears compulsory, not just ignore just incase they incorrectly sanction you.

Obviously if you wanted to go, there are quite a few voluntary courses being funded that maybe of use but ensure it is voluntary and if you find it too difficult attending, ensure they know you can stop.

If you need support you can contact the Making It Work Employment team.

Workplace visits are an integral part of the Making It Work Teams calendar. Once employment is sourced and job coaching completed the team withdraw and then complete workplace visits and check ins to keep ourselves visible to the employer and offer support and trouble shoot as needed with our clients.
Nothing brings us more joy than a workplace visit to Terrence. He is thriving in his role as part of the housekeeping team British Heart Foundation.
