& just like that, my periods stopped, I felt nothing anymore, and I couldn't help but wonder 2 things
1 - the celebs I see who are just as slim, if not more, must not have periods either
2 - is being skinny really this worth it ladies?
My s*x and the city lovers... See what I did above? I can humour myself now β€οΈβπ©Ή
CONTEXT
PREGNANCY: I gained 30lb. Tight core. My abs did not separate like many women experience (aka diastasis recti)
I trained until 30 weeks pregnant.
POST PARTUM: 3 days after, internal bleeding, back to hospital. 6 weeks post partum, bells palsy on my left eye (side effect from spinal injection they said. Was sent to the stroke department for tests too. Thankfully it lasted 6 weeks. Was extremely self conscious and scared it was going to be permanent which could have been the case). Dropped my 30lbs I gained by the end of 16 weeks post partum. Back to my pre pregnancy weight ππͺ felt unreal tbh!
5 MONTH POSTPARTUM: work related stress. Wow. That was a huge slap in the face. If you are unlucky enough to experience genuinely what this type of stress is like... Then I don't need to explain. I dropped a further 2 stone. Periods stopped (I had 4 healthy ones prior). I felt drained, exhausted, numb to a lot of emotions, and could feel my body wasn't working or regulating properly... Then the other end of the scale, if I did want more children, I couldn't due to not having periods and so many more health complications, the drs wanted to send me for IV but I promised I would work on myself and they supported me. No periods sounds bliss but it opens up a can of worms which functionally isn't healthy! But also, toxicity, because of the space your mind is in, you condition yourself to stay this small even though you're aware how bad you feel?
This went on for 6 months.
1 YEAR POST PARTUM: environment changed. Boundaries set in many areas of my life. And here we are today. Gained 1 stone back from my further 2 stone loss. My period returned after 7 months and 3 weeks again.
Why am I sharing this? There is nothing more helpful than being honest, transparent and potentially relatable to a few. I am also a mam now to a daughter who sadly will be growing up in the social media era and I want to make sure honest conversation is shared and not just 'picture perfect highlights' which aren't as always as they seem!
I had a gym for 8 years. I've been a coach for 14 years (yep, Image Geek is that oldπ₯Ή). I held my head high being strong, robust and leading by example.
I disappeared online for many weeks/months. I wasn't posting. I didn't want people to see my size, ask questions or talk about me without knowing some facts.
So here it is. A coach who never thought this would be my story. A story I was scared and ashamed to share at first, because how could I let this happen to me after all the years of discipline, knowledge and experience I have had over the decade I have been in this industry.
Thing is. It can happen to anyone. Anytime. I feel so much physically and mentally stronger already. I continue my journey and I work DAILY on myself to keep moving forward. I can't thank my nearest and dearest enough who have supported me without judgement, picked me up and carried me through those dark times.
Remember, it's only social media. There is always a story behind the picture!
Those who know me knew how passionate I was helping people before, now I'm driven and more passionate if that was even possible to help coach women and educate them on wellbeing.
Ps. In a world where we are back on the skinny trend. Being that skinny isn't worth it, I promise π«Άβ€οΈβπ©Ή
