• Autumn •
Today it really felt that autumn is upon us. We went foraging for Fly Agaric and found many many apples, chestnuts, different fungi and some of our beautiful red fungi kin.
As we wandered about with our baskets we bumped into various people out foraging some local kids who knew the botanical name for Fly Agaric and wished to find some, some adults who were foraging for chestnuts, a family who had found some edible mushrooms the week before and lots and lots of students from Hong Kong and the local area who were doing their DofE expedition. As we wandered, it felt like people weren’t looking at us in that weird way they do when they see someone with a basket but rather they were curious about what we had found and how we might use these plant kin and fungi kin.
With these Fly Agaric, we are going to cut them up and dry them and bring them into ceremony with students.
We will also find more mushrooms to make a tincture to use externally for sciatica but these ones are for ceremony.
Times are really hard in terms of the collective conscious with so much suffering, needless suffering, and spending awhile with our kin from the wild lands can help us to connect in with deeper meaning and truth and this is what these mushrooms will be for.
We also found Penny buns, different boletes including a king bolete, different Agaricus species, puff ball babies, funnel caps and some we didn’t know.
This is an amazing time to get out and find mushrooms even if you don’t know what the mushrooms are, you can just observe them, notice them. How do they look? Where do they grow?
It is really easy to mix up mushrooms so we don’t recommend picking any to eat or make medicines with unless you are trained or with someone who is - and even then there is a risk which could be fatal so absolute care is needed.
Thank you land for today - these beauties are so magical.
(I do still have a few postcards of fly agaric I drew,if anyone wants one - they are £5 for a pack of 2).
Enjoy autumn.
Carla Lucia Atkins Five Valley Seed Savers thanks for the mushroom soup!
