🩸 Two truths and a lie 👇

1. You will take blood from a real person on the day, not just a practice arm.
2. You need a maths or science qualification to enrol.
3. All the equipment is provided — you buy nothing.

Which one is made up? Comment 1, 2 or 3.

One of these has stopped more people from booking than anything else we hear, and it is completely invented.

We will confirm in the replies.

🎃 Special Halloween offer - Phlebotomy Training Part One.

Part One is where everyone starts: online theory you do at home, then one classroom day where you learn to take blood properly with a trainer beside you. No experience needed.

It’s currently under £200 in every city we run.

Use code PUMPKIN at checkout for an extra 10% off, until 31 October.

That’s 15 days, and seats on each classroom day are limited - once a date fills, it’s gone and the next one may be weeks away.

If you’ve been meaning to do this all year, this is the cheapest it gets.

💬 Comment “PHLEBOTOMY” and your city, and we’ll send you the booking link.

🩸 In our experience, nobody gets sent home from a clinical shift for missing a vein.

They get sent home for the things around it: not reporting a sharps incident, labelling away from the patient, carrying on with a procedure after the patient asked them to stop, or saying they had done a check they had not.

Every one of those is a judgement call rather than a skill gap.

Which is encouraging, actually. The technical part is trainable in a day. The rest is just deciding, now, that you will always stop and always say.

🩸 If you work in phlebotomy you will see the same patients every few weeks. Often it is their INR.

INR measures how long blood takes to clot. Patients on warfarin need it checked regularly so their dose can be adjusted — too low and they risk clots, too high and they risk bleeding.

It goes in the blue top, filled exactly to the line, because the test depends on an exact blood-to-citrate ratio. Underfill it and the lab cannot run it.

So that patient comes back for nothing, having waited twice.

Small detail, real consequence. That is most of phlebotomy.

🩸 Finish this sentence 👇

“This time next year I want to be ________.”

In a clinic? Off nights? Earning enough that the month is not a maths problem? Doing something your kids can picture?

October is the honest last window to train, get certified and be in the role before next year properly starts. Leave it to January and you are joining the queue with everyone else's resolutions.

Tell us your ending. We will tell you what it would actually take.

If you’ve been putting it off because of the money, this one’s for you.

You can train as a healthcare assistant for £655 - and that’s not a deposit or a starter module. It’s all three of these:

✅ Level 3 Care qualification - Ofqual regulated
✅ Phlebotomy certification - CPD accredited
✅ Cannulation certification - CPD accredited

A qualification plus two practical clinical skills, so you’re applying as someone who’s already trained rather than someone asking to be trained.

Still think £655 is too much? You don’t have to pay it in one go. Spread it over six months at £110 a month, interest free - no catch, no credit check drama, nothing added on top.

No previous experience needed to start.

If you’ve been waiting for the right time to do this, waiting for a sale, waiting until money feels easier - this is as low as the barrier gets.

💬 Comment “HCA” and we’ll send you the full course information.

✍️ The supporting statement is not a personal essay. It is a checklist answered in order.

Take the person specification. Work down the Essential criteria. Give each one its own short paragraph, using their phrasing, with one concrete example.

If they wrote “experience of venepuncture”, your heading is venepuncture — not “my passion for patient care”.

Shortlisters are scoring you against that list, often quickly. Make it impossible to miss where you have met each point.

Plain and matched beats beautifully written and unmatched every single time.

🚨 The NHS is currently hiring phlebotomists.

Trusts across the country advertise phlebotomist posts all year round - hospitals, clinics and GP surgeries all need people who can take blood safely.

Here’s the part most people miss: the majority of applicants apply with no training at all. They’re asking to be taught on the job, competing against everyone else doing the same. Some trust adverts go further and ask to see a phlebotomy certificate at interview.

You can be trained in a single day.

You practise properly first, with a trainer beside you the whole time, and you only take real blood when you’re ready. Most people in our training room have never held a needle before. You leave with a CPD-accredited certificate and the confidence to actually do the job.

No experience needed. No degree. One day.

⚠️ Seats on each class are limited.

💬 Comment “PHLEBOTOMY” to get certified - we’ll send you the next available dates.

🩺 A blood pressure reading can be out by 10 to 15 mmHg for entirely mechanical reasons.

The usual culprits:

• Cuff too small — reads artificially high
• Arm unsupported or below heart level — reads high
• Patient talking during the reading
• Legs crossed, or feet not flat
• Taking it straight after they have walked in

A wrong reading does not just sit there harmlessly. It can start a medication review the patient never needed.

Observations are a skill, not a button press — and they sit alongside phlebotomy in almost every support role.

🩸 Quiz. How long should you apply pressure after removing the needle?

A) Until the patient says it is fine
B) About 10 seconds
C) At least a minute, longer on blood thinners
D) No need if you put a plaster on

Comment your letter 👇

This one matters more than people think — poor pressure is the single most common cause of the bruise the patient takes home and remembers you by.
