Affinity Trust At Affinity Trust we support over 900 people with learning disabilities across England and Scotland, helping them live as independently as possible.

Here at Affinity Trust, we are dedicated to supporting people with learning disabilities to live the lives they want to. Whether helping someone to live in their own home, providing opportunities to make new friends, experience new things or gain work that is rewarding and enjoyable, Affinity Trust aims to ensure that those we support have the opportunity to live life to its fullest. Our mission and values are at the core of our service. Many of the people we support have come from institutional settings and we have worked with them to transform their level of independence and often, as a result, their quality of life. Supported living is our main area of support, and we are committed to offering this model for people with learning disabilities in preference to typical residential care homes.

It's Purple Tuesday! 💜

Purple Tuesday is a chance to think about the everyday barriers disabled people can face, and how we can make things more accessible.
At Affinity Trust, we're committed to working alongside the people we support, listening to their views and making sure their experiences and ideas help shape what we do.

That's why we got members of our Compassion Crew involved in judging this year's Star Awards! Jason was one of those who took part, using an Easy Read judging pack to help choose the winners and recognise the people who make a difference.

With our first Star Awards ceremony happening tomorrow, we're really looking forward to celebrating our amazing winners and sharing more of their stories with you!

We love seeing our Compassion Crew have such an active role in recognising the people who make a difference.

Something special is coming… 🎉

In just two days, we'll be celebrating the incredible people who make a difference every day at Affinity Trust.

The Star Awards are all about recognising the dedication, compassion and achievements of our colleagues, and the positive impact they have on the lives of the people we support.

We can't wait to celebrate our nominees, share their stories and shine a spotlight on some truly amazing people. ⭐

Ollie and Kevin enjoyed a Halloween adventure at earlier this month. 🎃

Ollie made the most of the funfair, enjoying the bumper cars and other attractions alongside a member of staff, while Kevin explored the pumpkin patch, posed for photos and met one of the Halloween performers. 👻

Days out like these are about more than just having fun. They’re about supporting people to explore their interests, enjoy new experiences and spend their time in ways that matter to them.

For us, that means recognising that everyone has their own idea of a good day out, and making sure they have the support and opportunities to enjoy it.

Lovely to see Ollie and Kevin making memories, each in their own way.

Everyone deserves to be heard.

This International Stammering Awareness Day, we're raising awareness of speech and communication difficulties and celebrating the different ways people express themselves.

At Affinity Trust, we believe everyone deserves to be listened to, understood and supported to communicate in the way that works best for them.

World Mental Health Day: Garry's Story 💚

The past year has transformed Garry's life.

Before moving into his new home, Garry often felt lonely and withdrawn. Living alone was affecting his wellbeing, and he didn't enjoy spending time by himself.

Working alongside his Affinity Trust support workers, Garry made the move into a shared supported living home with a friend. While the move felt overwhelming at times, he was encouraged to maintain his independence while knowing support was there whenever he needed it.

Since then, Garry's confidence has grown enormously.

He now helps run a weekly Happy Hour Club from his home, where friends come together to enjoy activities, music, food and laughter. He's celebrated his 70th birthday surrounded by friends, enjoyed a holiday to Blackpool, and continues to embrace new experiences and opportunities.

Most importantly, Garry says he is happier than ever.

"I have had a wonderful year. Thanks to the right support, I feel happier, more confident and more independent than ever before."

This World Mental Health Day, we're reminded that good mental wellbeing is often supported by meaningful relationships, community connections, independence and having the right support around you.

Thank you, Garry, for sharing your story. 💚

☀️ What a fantastic day at the Brisco Fun Day! ☀️

With sunshine, water pistol battles, a busy tombola, fantastic raffle prizes and plenty of delicious food, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

It was great to welcome people from Sheffield, Leicester and services across Loughborough, all coming together for a day built on fun, friendship and co-production.

We're delighted to share that the event raised over £400, which will go towards activities and improvements chosen by the people who live at Brisco.

A huge thank you to everyone who donated, volunteered and attended. What started as a co-production challenge four years ago continues to go from strength to strength.

🎉 Roll on next year!

💜 Scottish Learning Disability Week 2026 💜

This month, colleagues and the people we support across our Scotland Division came together to celebrate Scottish Learning Disability Week, a week dedicated to recognising the achievements, talents and contributions of people with learning disabilities, while promoting inclusion and challenging barriers.

This year's theme, "I am here... to be seen", highlighted the importance of ensuring people with learning disabilities are recognised, heard and included.

To celebrate the week, we asked the people we support how they wanted to get involved, and together we helped create a range of activities across Scotland. From events in Aberdeen, to an afternoon tea and cake day on the Isle of Bute, and a visit to Rockfield Café and a disco in Oban, it was wonderful to see so many people coming together to celebrate, connect and have fun.

Thank you to everyone who took part and helped make the week so special. We're proud to support opportunities for people to be seen, heard and included every day. 💜

Celebrating Community at Celebrate Aberdeen!

On Saturday 29 August, people supported by Affinity Trust joined support workers and managers to take part in the annual Celebrate Aberdeen Parade.

Travelling from across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, our group proudly walked the 1.5-mile route through the city centre, joining charities, community groups and voluntary organisations in a fantastic celebration of the local community.

The atmosphere was incredible, with music from Dolly Parton and ABBA keeping everyone smiling, singing and dancing along as we made our way down Union Street. 💙

For Affinity Trust, the parade was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the people we support, showcase the importance of inclusion, and be part of a community that values and celebrates everyone.

A huge thank you to everyone who took part and helped make it such a memorable day. Here's to another fantastic Celebrate Aberdeen!
