Someone in a Facebook group asked me a great question, so I thought I’d share the answer with you all! 👋
“Can you do more than a dispensing chemist with IPs?”
We’re lucky enough to have lots of options for healthcare, but knowing who does what can get a bit confusing.
First, IP means independent prescriber, someone qualified to prescribe medicines within their area of clinical expertise.
Pharmacists do a huge amount in our communities. Through NHS Pharmacy First, they can assess and treat certain conditions. Some also offer paid private consultations and prescribing outside that service, so there’s definitely some overlap with what I do.
At PrymaCare, I offer private urgent care by phone, video or home visit. Depending on what you need, that can include assessment, examination, diagnosis and prescribing where appropriate, alongside blood tests, ear care and onward referral.
So it’s about finding the right service for what you need help with.
I’m Ross, a local Advanced Paramedic Practitioner working in the NHS alongside running PrymaCare here in West Kent.
If you’re unsure whether I can help, please ask. And if another service would be a better fit, I’m happy to point you in the right direction.
Keep the questions coming .I work in healthcare every day, and sometimes forget that these job titles don’t explain themselves! 🙂
