💚In my classes I always recommend that parents/carers download The Lullaby Trust Baby Check app

⛑️It could save a life!

💚My heart goes out to these parents 💗💔

Content note: baby loss.

Sarah and Craig’s son, Ezrah, died from a Group B Strep infection when he was just 19 days old 💜.

"I'd read all the books, attended the classes. But nothing gave me the knowledge I needed that day."

Ezrah wouldn't feed well, cried with a high-pitched cry, and hadn't had a dirty nappy. Sarah looked at each sign in isolation, and felt she was overreacting.

"I really felt I was being dramatic."

When they noticed Ezrah’s temperature had risen in 30 minutes, Sarah and Craig called 111. At hospital, Ezrah was rushed straight to resus as he was showing signs of sepsis.

Ezrah was transferred to a specialist children's hospital but the brain damage was unsurvivable. Sarah and Craig held him as they said goodbye.

"Knowledge is power. Being told about The Lullaby Trust’s Baby Check app could've saved Ezrah's life. Being told more about infections by midwives could’ve saved Ezrah’s life."

“I am so pleased to see The Lullaby Trust’s Infection Prevention Week every year. Though I couldn’t have stopped Ezrah becoming unwell, if I’d known what I know now, I could’ve reacted quicker and that might have made a difference.”

This Infection Prevention Week, Sarah has a message for every parent and carer:

"Newborn babies are so vulnerable. If you really want to show your love and support, respect the boundaries families put in place. Wash your hands. Don't kiss the baby. That is love."

Thank you to Sarah and Craig for sharing their story, in the hope that no other family has to experience what they did💜

Please share this post far and wide. Ezrah’s story has the power to save babies' lives.

What does a health visitor actually do?
If your answer is simply "weigh the baby", you're only thinking of a tiny part of what your health visitor can do for you, your baby and your family!
In this episode of Family Health by Mini First Aid, Kate is joined by registered health visitor Ruth Watts to explain how health visitors support families from pregnancy right through the early years.
They chat about what happens at your appointments, feeding and sleep support, maternal mental health, child development, safe sleep advice and where to turn if you're struggling.
Health visitors are there for so much more than routine checks. They are there to support you as well as your baby, so if you're expecting a baby, or already have one at home, you’ll find this episode packed with practical advice and reassurance.

Starting to wean your baby? Let's talk about allergens.

Introducing solid foods is an exciting milestone, but for many parents, the thought of introducing foods that could trigger an allergic reaction can feel a little daunting.

Research suggests that introducing common allergens, such as peanuts and eggs, from around 6 months of age, and continuing to offer them regularly if tolerated, may help reduce the risk of developing a food allergy.

The key is to introduce allergens one at a time, in age-appropriate forms, so you can recognise any potential reaction.

And of course, knowing what an allergic reaction looks like and how to respond is incredibly important.

That's why our Mini First Aid Baby & Child First Aid classes now include a dedicated Allergy & Anaphylaxis module, developed in collaboration with Allergy UK.

Swipe through our guide, save it for your weaning journey and book your Mini First Aid class to feel more confident about keeping your little one safe.
