Strength for Yoga: Longframlington Studio
This article highlights the importance of strength training, not just for building muscle but for reducing cardiovascular risk due to its effects on blood pressure, insulin resistance, body composition, inflammation and metabolic health. It also helps to regulate our nervous system which over time leads to a lower resting heart rate and a calmer cardiovascular baseline.
However the thought of joining a gym can be off-putting to many people, which is where this inclusive, friendly class is ideal.
This class builds the functional strength needed to feel more stable, powerful, and controlled in your Yoga practice. Using a blend of body‑weight training and resistance‑band work, you’ll target the key muscle groups that support common Yoga poses—core, glutes, shoulders, and deep stabilisers. Movements are intentional and accessible, focusing on strength that translates directly onto the mat.
The format is 2 rounds of a group of 3-4 exercise, performed for 45 seconds. There are usually 3-4 groups of exercises. The class is designed to challenge you, but you will be encouraged to just do what you can, with the aim that as the weeks go by you will see improvements.
