A humbling experience for my return visit to the Body Worlds exhibition yesterday.

As a physio, I spend my days working with bodies and helping people understand the human body, but seeing its complexity, resilience and incredible design in this way was a real reminder of just how extraordinary it is.

Its easy to take our bodies for granted and forget how much they do for us everyday.

It was a wonderful reminder to never stop being curious, appreciate our bodies, and most importantly, to look after them.

Kudos to my son, Seb, who kept me company and listened to my rambling as we went round! This exhibition isn't for everyone, but its important to take a moment to respect that people are willing to donate their bodies to science and education.

'Creativity' is a crucial part of our day. Sessions need to be evidence-based but they can also be fun and engaging.

Some exercises may look playful, but there is science behind them! We use creative activities to develop coordination and help the brain and body work together, while making movement enjoyable and meaningful.

“I have Parkinson’s.”
“I’m 94.”
“I’ve broken my hip.”

When someone calls me for physiotherapy, these are often the first things they tell me — as though the diagnosis or their age tells me everything I need to know.

These are simply pieces of your jigsaw. Your family, home, pets and hobbies make up other pieces which contribute, in their own way, to recovery - all of which I want to know about too! They all offer subtle clues to help set goals and build motivation.

Everyone’s stroke is different.
Everyone’s Parkinson’s is different.
Everyone at 94 is different.

Sometimes we have to have honest conversations about expectations. Sometimes we have to challenge assumptions about ageing, progressive conditions or recovery.

Sometimes we have to help you realise that you’re capable of more than you thought.

Your diagnosis is only part of your story. 😉

This is us everyday! Years pass and we still think about different patients. We wouldn't have it any other way though x

Sarah Goldsack and I created Wobble to help more instructors bring movement, music fun and joy to the people who need it most.

Earlier this week we held face-to-face training and welcomed 14 new instructors to the Wobble family.

We are an aging population get one of the biggest demographics remains the most underserved.

Our training is open to fitness, care and health professions.

Feedback from this week's training:

"What you have created is truly inspiring"

"What a confidence booster....exciting....inspiring....you've tapped into another demographic that has been overlooked.

It was such a busy training day that we forgot to take photos!!

Having been qualified over 20 years, I have seen many walking sticks hiding in corners of houses.

Many have stories and memories attached to them and loyally wait years for their moment to prove their practical use.

This walking stick was proudly shown to me by its 92-year-old owner yesterday. He made it himself out of a grapevine which had been growing in the family greenhouse for decades.

Naturally twisted and beautifully shaped by time, it is completely unique. It is disconcertingly bendy, but there is no way it's owner will consider swapping it for an aluminium replacement!

This 89-year-old lady had a total hip replacement 2 weeks ago.

She has had 2 weeks of planned respite in a care home where we have seen her for physio everyday to complete her exercises and practice mobility/stairs.

Today she progressed to walking with a single walking stick and tomorrow she returns home!

She is now longing for the spring weather to arrive so that she can work in the garden painfree 😃🌻

Some days are heavier than others.

Working with mostly older adults means that we form real connections. We celebrate small wins, we try to bring humour to our sessions. But sometimes we have to say goodbye.

Alongside the sadness, we feel gratitude for having known them. For having been trusted to support their bodies, their independence and their dignity during their final months. This gentleman stayed at home, with his family, until his final day.

Its always a privilege to walk alongside someone during their final chapter.
