📚 BBC Contains Strong Language Festival – 10th Anniversary 🎤✨

We’re really proud to be attending the BBC Contains Strong Language Festival as part of its 10th anniversary celebrations, with TWO Hope Collective events taking place! 💙

Today, we’re distributing the third anthology from the Hope Collective – Pocket Full of… 📖✨

The Hope Collective began as a collaboration between South West Yorkshire Partnership Teaching NHS Foundation Trust and the National Poetry Centre, bringing together parents and poets to explore the unimaginable grief that follows the loss of a child or loved one.

Today, Luise Marino will also be joining poet Karen McCarthy Woolf for a workshop exploring how poetry can be used to support connection and hope . As part of the session, poems from the Hope Collective will be read, giving participants the opportunity to hear directly from the powerful words and experiences captured within the collection. ❤️

And tomorrow, Luise will be leading a workshop around the Collective, where participants will have the opportunity to get creative and write their own poetry. ✍️

We’re delighted to be part of this special 10th anniversary celebration and to have the opportunity to share the Hope Collective, its work and the incredible power of poetry to give voice to experiences that can sometimes feel impossible to put into words.

If you’re at the festival, come and say hello, pick up a copy of the anthology and maybe even discover your inner poet! 💙📚

🌟 Health & Wellbeing at Freshers’ Week – University of Huddersfield! 🌟

We’ve been at the heart of Freshers’ Week at the University of Huddersfield, joining the Health & Wellbeing event and chatting to students about some of the exciting research taking place across our region. 🧬🔬

It’s been a great opportunity to talk about how getting involved in research can help shape the future of healthcare – and to showcase some of the studies that people in our local communities can get involved with.

One of the studies we’re promoting is Genes & Health 🧬❤️

Genes & Health is a large medical research study, which aims to better understand why conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and other major illnesses affect some people more than others.

The study involves large numbers of local Bangladeshi and Pakistani communities, helping researchers understand genetic variation and find new ways to improve health for South Asian communities in England and around the world.

From understanding genes and cholesterol to exploring why heart disease and stroke occur, research like this could help us learn more about disease, improve prevention and ultimately improve people’s health in the future.

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by for a chat! 💙

📚 Research starts with people getting involved – and every volunteer can make a difference.

📣 Introducing the BrainBITE survey

Have you, a loved one, or someone you care for experienced symptoms of stress, low mood, sleeplessness or anxiety?

Or symptoms of any other mental health, neurodevelopmental, or behavioural condition?

We know diet plays a big role in brain health — and with the right support, changing how we eat may help ease these symptoms.

We want to understand what types of support people prefer so we can design effective, diet-focused help for the NHS.

If you’re aged 14+ and want to shape the future of care, take our 15-minute survey today. Your voice matters.

Completing the survey gets you the chance to earn a £50
voucher.

Today our research team had a fantastic time attending the Rida Girls High School Careers Day, where we spoke with students about the exciting world of research and the many pathways into research careers.

During the session, we shared insights into what research involves, how it drives innovation and improves lives. Students had the chance to ask questions, learn about our career journeys, and explore the skills that help researchers make a real-world impact.

It was inspiring to meet so many enthusiastic and ambitious young people, and we hope our discussions encouraged them to consider research as a future career option.

A big thank you to Rida Girls High School for inviting us to be part of such a valuable event. We look forward to continuing to support and inspire the next generation of researchers.
