Deep into regretting my life choices after HOURS of sanding away 30 years of white gloss 🫠a few things came to mind that I thought might be useful to share.
✨If moaning to myself about the F& sanding is the only thing I’ve got to moan about today then how amazing is my life! I’m so grateful for this house.
✨My main musing I wanted to share was…This process is a lot like going through therapy, or any version of sorting something out (like the drawer of crap you have, the kids toys, your wardrobe, you get my point). You start the daunting task (in my case prepping the landing & hall for decorating). You might feel apprehensive, want to get some advice & prepare, or jump straight in. Then you start and feel motivated. You can see the vision. The point of undertaking the task. Then about mid way or even nearer the end, in my case when I looked like I was in the middle of an explosion in a coke factory, you think ‘wtf am I doing!’ Want to give up & can’t hold the hope or see the end point. In therapy terms, this is the point where you feel like s**t, question why you ever thought it’s be a good idea to work through the thing. You might need extra support at this stage, share that it’s tough with loved ones, nurture yourself more. That’s why, as the therapist, I hold the hope in the tough times. I know what you’re feeling is to be expected and is ok. That it’ll be worth it! Is my hallway finished yet?! Nope! But after all that sanding I’m a whole lot closer to the end point.
