We had a fantastic 2 weeks with Walsall children on the allotment. Growing skills, growing food, growing confidence π±
Children taking part in Walsall's Holiday Activities and Food programme (HAF) enjoyed a fantastic day with Star Light Multi CIC at Winterley Lane Allotments, learning how food is grown from seed to harvest.
From planting flowers and vegetables to harvesting produce, the children gained hands-on experience, learned new skills and explored where food comes from. The day also included some creative potion-making, adding plenty of fun along the way!
Activities like these help children build confidence, develop practical skills and create positive connections with food. They also provide opportunities to spend time outdoors, learn something new and enjoy enriching experiences during the school holidays.
Learning how food is grown, prepared and enjoyed is an important part of helping children develop lifelong healthy habits. This work supports Walsall's ambition to make healthy, nutritious food more accessible and to give children and families opportunities to learn more about food through fun, practical experiences. π
