One of my yoga teachers used to begin every class by saying, “Well done on arriving here, you’ve already done the hard part”.
At the time, I thought they meant battling traffic, finding a parking space, or simply getting out of bed. But the more I teach, the more I realise what it really means.
It’s saying yes to yourself. It’s showing up when you’re feeling tired, anxious, disconnected, or unsure whether you belong. It’s choosing courage over comfort, even if no one else notices. Walking through the door is often the biggest step.
During today’s community yoga session, someone shared that they’d almost not come because they’d never tried yoga before, alongside some more personal reasons that had left them feeling disconnected from themselves. By the end of class, they were smiling, feeling a little more at home in their body, and already talking about coming back.
Another person returned for their second session, laughing halfway through and asking, “Why is this so hard?” They stayed afterwards to chat.
Those moments reminded me that the biggest wins aren’t the deepest stretches or the most impressive poses. They’re the quiet acts of showing up.
This space has always been about creating somewhere people feel safe enough to arrive exactly as they are, reconnect with themselves, and leave feeling just a little lighter than when they walked in.
Because sometimes, arriving really is the hardest part.
