A little Tea, a little Tiffin and a little bit of magic!

It’s been a busy week away assisting on a Sacred Celebrant course, and I’m looking forward to being back in my own little world of tea, tiffin and tarot this Tuesday evening.

Tea, Tiffin & Tarot Society is all about taking a couple of hours out of your busy life to enjoy a proper cuppa, something delicious, a little reading of cards and leaves, and lovely company.

No lessons. No pressure. No need to know everything about Tarot or Oracle. Just cards, conversation and a little magic.

If you’ve fancied coming along but haven’t quite got around to it, perhaps this is your nudge!

FOLKLORE FRIDAY: The Humble witch's broom

Have you ever wondered why witches are often pictured with a broomstick?

The humble besom has a long history as a practical tool, traditionally made by binding twigs to a wooden handle, but like so many everyday objects, it's gathered its own folklore along the way!

Sweeping has an obvious practical purpose, but it's also incredibly symbolic: clearing away dirt, making a fresh clean start and preparing a space for something new.

In modern witchcraft, a besom may be used to symbolically clear a space before ritual, mark a threshold or as part of a seasonal practice like Samhain (Halloween costume prop anyone?)

And what of the images of witches flying on their broomsticks? This appeared as early as the 1400s in a illustrated manuscript by French poet Martin Le Franc.

🛌 Did the stories come from dreams?
👀 Were these hallucinations brought on by the use of powerful plants like Deadly nightshade and Mandrake?
💫Did witches use a flying ointment recipe, as some historical accounts believe?

And of course let's not forget the religious beliefs and interrogations of the time. Authorities and the Witch Finder General helped shape the image of the witch as someone who flew to gatherings and conspired with the Devil. Pressure and torture during interrogations led to confessions during the witchcraft trials.

We may never know the answer, but the persecution of women (and yes men were also persecuted) who were the healers, the midwives, herbalists and wise folk of their time, is a fact.

So what doe you think? Dare to comment below (and let me know if you own a besom x)
Dreams
Hallucinations
Folklore
Something else entirely

I am so happy to announce that we only have TWO spaces remaining!

On 31st October, I'll be co-hosting Women at the Threshold, a special day retreat at Nourish & Moor, (Postbridge, Dartmoor) - I mean that alone is magical!

It's a day to step away from the everyday, reconnect with yourself, explore your intuition and spend time in the beautiful energy of the season.

I'll be bringing elements of my own practice and Carly (Vitamin-Ivy and Esme (Bea Poetry) will be sharing their incredible talents with you too.

Samhain/Halloween is a time of transition, reflection and turning towards the darker half of the year. What better time to give yourself permission to pause, explore and enjoy a day created for women by wome.

With only two spaces remaining, I'd love to welcome you. So if you've been thinking of joining us, this is your little nudge.

Interested in one of the remaining places? Please message me. Kerry xx

The Legend of the Black Cat 🖤
Today I looked out my kitchen window and smiled with joy at the appearance of a black cat by my cauldron! It got me thinking how blessed I was at such an auspicious messenger to have appeared. I then started to doubt myself, as to me these beautiful panthers are guardians and a reminder that magic is never far away...but is that how everyone thinks?

In English folklore our black feline friends are sometimes seen as foe. Sailors welcomed black cats on board as a symbol of good luck and protection (and blimmin' good rat catchers). My very first cat "Simon" when I was 2yrs old, was named after a WW2 ship's cat. In other parts of the country, a black cat crossing your path was seen as a blessing, rather than a warning,

So where did the foe part come from? During the witch hunts (Henry VIII introduced the first Witchcraft Act in 1542) people were led to believe that witches could take on the form of cats (Harry Potter - Prof McGonagall), or that the black cat was their familiar (a companion who could cross between this world and the unseen). Or because being black, they weren't seen in shadows and would suddenly appear from nowhere!

So next time you see a black cat, take a pause, tap into your intuition...is it merely a cat or is it a mysterious and magical creature. Not every omen is a warning, some are four legged friends waving their magic at you as they pass by!

Tell me below, I'd love to know: Do you see black cats as:
Lucky
Magical
Misunderstood
Murky and a foe

(PS: next time you step into my Reiki Room, look out for my Egyptian Goddess Bastet. 😘 look her up: she guarded against evil spirits and protected women and children x)

We are in a New Moon in Libra Phase and perhaps it is time to take a breath and find our balance.

The relationships, harmony and fairness of Libra is showing us how we can navigate the world around us. You, know, everyone getting along, no annoyances, harmonious bliss.

Except sometimes keeping the peace means biting our tongue when really we should speak up. Saying yes when every part of our being is screaming NO! Sometimes we end up spending so much energy weighing up every possible outcome that we never make a decision...or worse, speak and act to hastily and do the complete opposite - huh go figure opposite energy Aries!

So with this New Moon perhaps a good balance to look at is "I honour myself and others". This isn't giving all of ourselves to our relationships, family, friends and work. No, it's actually about looking at the fairness and balance, placing boundaries (diplomatically of course) and learning that we can still be connected, still find that harmony but it's less one-sided and perhaps, just perhaps we will be more respected for that.

This isn't being selfish, or showing weakness, this is about honouring yourself. You can disagree with someone and guess what, you won't catch fire and disappear in a puff of smoke.

Imagine if you then release some obligations that you really didn't want to do...isn't that actually honouring the other party, you know, by actually putting the right energy into whatever the request is? Bonus! you get more time for what you want!

So, this New Moon, seek YOUR balance, think about your boundaries and don't lose yourself in trying to keep everyone else happy. Kerry xx

Something new is brewing…I need your input!

I’m already working on my 2027 workshop calendar. 🌿

I know November and December can be busy and expensive months, so I’m looking ahead to January and have created some lovely new workshop experiences for the New Year.

But here’s the thing… they’re already taking shape. I’ve trialled two of them and I can’t wait to share them with you.

In the meantime, I’m curious…

If you were joining me for a 4-hour hands-on workshop, which day would suit you best?

Friday | Saturday | Sunday

👀 Your answer might help me decide when the first ones happen…👀
