I’ve been a little quiet on here… I enjoy sharing, inspiring and connecting with you all. It’s become a gentle way of life that feels integral to The Stable Health Studio. And what has always mattered to me the most is to keep it real, and not be too guarded with my emotions, so you see and get to know the real Beks - not an Instagram version. So with that in mind, I wanted to let you know where I’m at right now. Sending love always ###x

Stillness can be scary.
Stillness can be blissful.
Stillness can be loud.
Stillness can be quiet.
Stillness is never just one thing.
Yoga and especially meditation invites us to release ourselves from the external stimulus of life, of being carried from one thing to the next, and to close our eyes, listen and observe with a different kind of awareness.

What do you notice when you find a moment to sit quietly and close your eyes?

Progress isn’t a straight line.

We tend to think of healing and recovery as:

pain → healing → improvement → strength → done

But the body doesn’t work like that. Neither does the mind. Nor does yoga.❤️

Yoga supports us from the inside out. It doesn’t ask us to be anywhere other than where we are. Perhaps that’s why it can hold us so well through the challenges of life.

There are days when you feel stronger. Days when you need to rest. Days when something you could previously do suddenly isn’t available. Days when you revisit something you thought you’d moved beyond.

That isn’t necessarily failure or going backwards.

It is all just information.

There is a beautiful connection between this way of thinking and the 8 Limbs of Yoga. And here are some of the things I’m reflecting on right now…

Can I truly find ease with what is actually here, right now?

Can I learn to listen to what my body needs today, rather than becoming overwhelmed by the internal chatter telling me what I should be able to do?

Can I stop making my peace dependent on being somewhere else? I can want things to change without making the present moment feel wrong.

Can I find the balance between showing up for myself and knowing when to soften?

We practise. We show up. We do the rehabilitation. We breathe. We strengthen. We rest. We try again.

If the pathway keeps changing, then so must I.

Can I turn inward rather than constantly measuring myself against external markers of progress?

Can I loosen my grip on the ego and the need to achieve something? Can I find steadiness and gentle awareness without needing a reward or something to show for it?

Perhaps this is part of what yoga teaches us. That progress isn’t always about moving forwards, doing more or becoming stronger.

Sometimes it’s about learning to listen more deeply. To respond differently. To accept where we are without losing hope for where we might go.

And sometimes, the most yogic thing we can do is stop pushing.

To breathe.

To listen.

To begin again, gently. ❤️

Very very very happy to be back in the river. I last river dipped a few days before my shoulder operation back in August. I’ve missed it SO much (especially given the amazing weather we’ve been having), and the combination of no physical yoga practice and no river dipping has been tough for my mental health. So this magical return to the river last night was everything and extra special as I got to share it with my beautiful girl.💗💚 I’m not allowed to actually swim for another 4 weeks but lying in the river is enough for me…

A little life update from me…

September disappeared in something of a blur - recovering from shoulder surgery, finding my way back into the rhythm of life, lots of physiotherapy… and then some rather frustrating news about my neck.😞

Twelve years ago I had two artificial disc implants fitted in my neck. I’ve recently discovered, as part of a national safety recall, that the bones around the implants have significantly dissolved, with concerns about infection in the spine.

So in November I’ll be having reversal surgery to remove the two implants and have a two-level spinal fusion in their place.
It’s complex surgery, with a long recovery, which means I’ll need to take an extended period away from teaching in person. My brain is doing a lot of processing... but I’m also trying to see this next chapter as an invitation to slow down, listen more carefully and to explore many of the practices I teach from a different perspective.

And I’m definitely not going to totally disappear. Yay!!🥳

Live + Flow will become an even bigger and integral part of what I do for a while, and I’ll be finding more ways to connect with you, share practices and nurture our online community whilst I’m away from teaching in person.

I’ve written a much longer, more personal update in my October newsletter (drop me a message if you’d like to be added to the mailing list) - including a little more about what’s happening and what the coming months might look like.

This community has been such a huge part of my journey, and I genuinely don’t take it for granted. Sounds like such a cliche but it’s the truth!

Yoga teaches us that change is inevitable. That our practice is not about controlling what happens, but learning how to meet what is here.

So that’s what I’m going to try to do.
One breath, one day, one step at a time.
Here’s to whatever comes next.💜

And if you’re not already part of Live + Flow, you can try it free for 14 days - perhaps this is a lovely time to practise together.

Lots of love
Beks 💚

Lately I’ve noticed how scattered I feel and I know I’m not alone feeling this way.

Life asks us to hold so much. Some seasons more than others.

Relationships. Children. Admin. Meals. Work. Messages. Aging parents. Illness. Appointments. The endless mental lists that seem to live quietly in the background of every day.

It’s easy to feel as though pieces of us are being pulled in every direction until we no longer feel entirely here.

I have a feeling I’m not the only one and I hold space for this in my yoga community. A space to let scattered bodies land and simply be for a while.

One of the things I love most about yoga is that it doesn’t ask us to become someone different. It doesn’t ask us to force ourselves into calm, flexibility or fitness.

It simply offers a place to be present. To sit with it all.

A few slow breaths.

A gentle exploration of movement.

A moment of stillness.

Practices rooted in Hatha Yoga, breathwork, meditation and mindfulness create space for everything that’s already moving through us to settle. Not because we’re trying to change it, but because we’re allowing it to land.

Each time we pause and return to the body, we gather another small piece of ourselves.

And over time, those small returns become something powerful.

We build trust. This is one of the most essential signals for our nervous system to remain resilient and balanced.

We create safety.

We remind the nervous system that it doesn’t have to stay in a constant state of pulling, rushing or bracing.

Coming home to yourself isn’t usually dramatic.

More often, it’s a few quiet breaths in the middle of an ordinary day.

And sometimes, that’s enough to help everything feel a little more whole again.

If you’d like to practice with me you’ll find me mostly online at the moment via our Live + Flow membership. All the details are in the bio or visit the website.💜

Early this morning I sat down to meditate. I’d had an extremely restless night as my body tried to process the swirling thoughts following the news I received from my neurosurgeon yesterday.

This morning I sat with myself. With all the emotions and feelings. I found a version of stillness and quietly asked the universe for guidance, for a clear sign to help me, as I move forward and prepare to have reversal surgery - where the disc implants in my neck will be removed and replaced with a two level spinal fusion.

An hour or so later I was about to have a shower but I felt a strong pull to go outside. I lay down on my yoga mat, looked at the blue sky and closed my eyes. When I reopened them seconds later I saw this formation - a beautiful spine made of clouds drifting by. The universe works in powerful and mysterious ways.🤍

So thankful to walk over the fields last night, hand in hand with George and witness the sun going down.🌞

The autumn equinox feels like gentle turning point.

A moment where day and night briefly meet in equal measure before the light begins to soften.

Nature doesn’t rush this transition. It doesn’t cling to summer or strive for winter. It simply responds to what is changing.
Perhaps there’s a beautiful invitation here for us too.💚

Not to fill this new season with more, but to listen a little more closely to what we need. To notice what our bodies are asking for. What needs slowing down. What wants nourishing. What is quietly ready to be released.
Fresh beginnings don’t always arrive with momentum.
Sometimes they begin with paying attention.😍 And that’s what I’m focusing on right now. Paying close attention to the whispers in my body. I hope you can find a way to do the same.
