Sometimes, wellbeing looks like being alone.
Not lonely.
Not disconnected.
Just… alone.
This morning I was tired, slightly hormonal (because apparently that needed mentioning 😂) and I knew the company of myself was exactly what I needed.
I was awake early, so instead of filling the time with noise, plans or scrolling, I took myself for a wander along the Quayside. I walked until I reached Ouseburn, stopped for a delicious coffee and just… existed for a while.
Nothing particularly exciting happened.
And that was kind of the point.
It felt aligned with where I was at today. Quiet. Slow. Unhurried. And somehow, that gave me peace.
We live in a world that constantly pulls us towards people, plans, noise, scrolling and the next little hit of dopamine. Sometimes we have to consciously choose something gentler.
A walk alone.
A coffee and our own thoughts.
Reading. Pottering. Wandering.
Doing something slowly, simply because we enjoy it.
It can feel uncomfortable at first. And perhaps even more so as we get older, when our lives become fuller and more socially intertwined.
But solitude gives us space to remember who we are when nobody else is asking anything of us.
What do I like?
What do I need?
What makes me feel alive?
What feels like me?
And if you've been lucky enough to create friendships and a community that feels like family, taking time for yourself doesn't mean you're leaving them behind.
The good ones will still be there.
Sometimes, stepping away from the noise isn't withdrawing from life.
It's coming back to yourself. 💚
