🧼 Infection Prevention Control Week | 19-25 October 🧼
This week is Infection Prevention Control (IPC) Week, a global initiative that highlights the importance of preventing infections and protecting the health of patients, healthcare workers, and communities.

Infection prevention and control is a practical, evidence-based approach that helps reduce the spread of infections. It includes measures such as good hand hygiene, safe use of injections, preventing healthcare-associated infections, tackling antimicrobial resistance, and maintaining safe healthcare environments.
This year's theme, "Generations of Infection Prevention | Past. Present. Protected.", celebrates the progress made in infection prevention while recognising the ongoing importance of these practices in keeping people safe.

πŸ‘ Simple actions such as washing hands properly, staying up to date with vaccinations, and following infection prevention guidance can help protect ourselves and those around us.

🌸 World Menopause Day | 18 October 🌸
Today is World Menopause Day, a global awareness day dedicated to improving understanding of menopause and supporting those experiencing it.

Menopause is a natural stage of life that usually occurs between the ages of 45 and 55, when hormone levels change and periods eventually stop. The transition, known as perimenopause, can bring a wide range of symptoms, including changes to periods, hot flushes, mood changes, sleep difficulties, muscle and joint pain, and vaginal or urinary symptoms.

This year's theme is "Chronic Pain at Midlife: From Recognition to Evidence-Based Care", highlighting the impact that chronic pain can have during and after the menopause transition and the importance of improving awareness, research, and support.

πŸ’œ If you are experiencing symptoms, remember that support and advice are available, and you do not have to manage them alone.

πŸ“’ Speak Up Month | 1-31 October πŸ“’
October is Speak Up Month, a campaign to raise awareness of the importance of speaking up when you see something that isn't right.

Speaking up, sometimes called whistleblowing, is when someone reports wrongdoing, illegal activity, unsafe practice, or unethical behaviour within an organisation. Speaking up can help improve safety, protect others, and create positive change.

While Speak Up Month has a particular focus on the NHS, its message is relevant to everyone. Knowing how and when to raise concerns, and understanding the protections available, can help ensure that concerns are heard and acted upon.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a global campaign dedicated to raising awareness of breast cancer, promoting earlier diagnosis, and supporting those affected by the disease.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK. While it mainly affects women, men can develop breast cancer too. Knowing the signs and symptoms and checking your breasts regularly can help you notice any changes early.

If you notice any unusual changes, it's important to contact your GP. Although symptoms can be caused by other conditions, early diagnosis gives the best chance of successful treatment.

πŸ’™ Dyspraxia Awareness Week | 12-18 October πŸ’™
This week is Dyspraxia Awareness Week, a chance to raise awareness and understanding of dyspraxia, also known as Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD).

Dyspraxia is a neurological condition that affects coordination and movement. It often begins in childhood and can make everyday tasks more challenging, from writing and using cutlery to catching a ball, riding a bike, or organising activities. With the right support and encouragement, many of these skills can be improved, helping people with dyspraxia reach their full potential.

This year's theme, "Like a Girl", highlights the under-diagnosis of dyspraxia in women and girls and explores how stereotypes and language can affect understanding, recognition, and support.

🌟 Throughout the week, a range of free online events will be available, including webinars, workshops, live Q&A sessions, and social activities, offering opportunities to learn more and hear from people with lived experience.
