A fantastic result this week thanks to the help of the amazing Dr François and his team 😊. Sugar was seen at Victoria a few weeks ago for collapsing trachea. This condition is common in many small breeds of dog, but none more so than the Pomeranian breed. We see a LOT of cases...but poor Sugar had one of the worst cases we have ever seen. Often the symptoms of tracheal collapse can be controlled with medicines, but not when it's this severe. Using fluoroscopy and meticulous technique, Dr François placed a specialised prosthesis, a stent, into Sugar's airway. The results are incredible. From suffering from chronic severe coughing and breathing difficulties...Sugar can finally breathe easy. This kind of procedure can literally change lives...you can see it in Sugar's eyes! We are so happy to see what a difference this procedure can make. Check the link in our bio for our website, and list of some of the advanced procedures that Dr François can perform for our patients in need! 😊

Great news today for our friend Sa Sa! 😊

We have been managing Sa Sa for chronic enteropathy (CE). Prior to our investigation, Sa Sa had need constant diarrhea, one of the most stressful and frustrating problems for any pet family.

After a detailed investigation, we started Sa Sa on steroids and a hypoallergenic diet.

After many months of near-constant diarrhea, his condition improved almost overnight!

But we weren’t done yet…

…controlling diarrhea with steroids is good…but controlling it without steroids is even better.

Sa Sa’s family showed incredible persistence and diligence in carefully trialling multiple diets until they found the best one (it’s different for each dog!).

While doing this, they very carefully lowered the dose of steroids to the lowest dose to control the diarrhea…

Well today we got the wonderful news that Sa Sa has been steroid-free for almost three months! 🎉🎉🎉.

Controlling diarrhea without steroids is called food-responsive enteropathy (FRE).

It’s vastly preferable if steroids can be avoided, due to the risk of side-effects with long-term use.

We are so happy for Sa Sa and family, and that all their hard work has paid off! 💪💪😁 😁 😁

Dr Chris meeting Dr Josh Stern, one of the world’s leading researchers into feline heart disease, as well as many other specialists and an incredible group of brilliant and enthusiastic colleagues from China ☺️☺️☺️…there was even time to discuss one of our all-time favourite (and successful!) cardiac kitties, Tora 🤩. From this conference it’s very clear that here are BIG things on the way for cardiac medicine in cats! So great to be learning every day ☺️🎓🎓🎓
