🚗♿ NEW VEHICLE ADAPTATION SCHEME (VAS) ANNOUNCED!
A significant step forward for accessible and independent travel in Ireland! 💚
Minister of State Seán Canney announced the framework for the new Vehicle Adaptation Scheme (VAS), designed to help drivers and passengers who require vehicle adaptations to travel more independently.
✨ Here’s what you need to know:
✅ Financial Support – Assistance towards the cost of vehicle adaptations needed to enter, exit or operate a vehicle.
✅ Not Means Tested – Applicants will not be assessed based on their income.
✅ No Upfront Payment Required – Eligible applicants will not have to pay for approved adaptations upfront. Following completion of the work and verification, payment will be made directly to the approved supplier on the applicant’s behalf.
✅ Pre-Approved Suppliers – Applications will include details of a supplier selected from the scheme’s approved list.
✅ Simple Application Process – Apply for support, receive grant approval, arrange the approved adaptation, and submit the required documentation once the work is completed.
📅 Applications are expected to open in early 2027. Full details of the scheme, including its final operational arrangements, will be published once confirmed.
📌 Important to know: The new VAS will operate as a standalone support scheme. It will not replace the existing Disabled Drivers and Disabled Passengers Scheme operated by the Department of Finance.
