Meniscus injury doesn’t automatically mean surgery — and surgery doesn’t automatically mean your rehab is finished.
Whether your meniscus is managed conservatively, with a meniscus repair, or following a meniscectomy, the key is the same: structured, progressive rehabilitation based on how the knee is actually functioning.
At Encore Physiotherapy Clinic, meniscus rehab focuses on:
•Restoring range of motion
•Settling pain and swelling
•Rebuilding quadriceps, hamstring and calf strength
•Restoring single-leg control and movement quality
•Progressing running, change of direction and sport-specific load
•Using objective testing to guide return-to-run and return-to-sport decisions
Our Biodex isokinetic dynamometer allows us to accurately identify strength deficits, while ForceDecks help us assess jump, landing and limb asymmetry. That means progression is based on data, not guesswork.
Current consensus supports physiotherapy as first-line management for many degenerative meniscal injuries, and some acute tears can also be managed successfully without surgery. After surgery, rehabilitation should respect the procedure performed while still progressing toward objective milestones.
The gold standard is not simply waiting for time to pass.
It is progressive rehab, objective retesting and a criteria-led return to performance.
Assess. Rehabilitate. Retest. Return.
