Just back from an amazing weekend of training with Medinet Minds - completing their Foundation Training in ADHD for Healthcare Professionals.
Dr Manan Thakrar is an inspirational educator, providing a clear and practical framework for understanding how ADHD is assessed and diagnosed. We also explored the different medication options, potential side effects, and the important role that lifestyle medicine can play in supporting neurodivergence, helping people to truly flourish.
One area I found particularly valuable was the opportunity to discuss the intersection of ADHD and menopause, and the profound impact this combination can have on a woman’s mental and physical wellbeing.
It really highlighted to me how the coping strategies and mechanisms that many neurodivergent women have developed throughout their lives can become less effective during the menopause transition. Changes in hormones, stress, sleep, cognition and emotional wellbeing can all add another layer of complexity.
I also had the pleasure of meeting some wonderful psychiatrists, psychiatric nurses, GPs and psychologists. The opportunity to learn from such a diverse group of healthcare professionals, share experiences and perspectives, and deepen my understanding was incredibly valuable.
I’ve come away from the weekend with so much new knowledge and a greater appreciation of how we can support and coach neurodivergent women through menopause, taking a truly holistic approach that considers both their physical and mental wellbeing.
I’m excited to bring this learning into my work and continue developing my knowledge in this fascinating and important area.
