Kev here ☠️ There’s a lot less detail in this than you might think. Have a second look. Most of the realism comes from exaggerating the shadows and putting them in roughly the right places, then your brain fills in the missing detail.

All grey wash, no opaques. Just a few white highlights.

Kev here ☠️ I’d like to address the AI “conversation”that preceded this tattoo.

This design came from my imagination. I used several reference images from Pinterest and pieced them together in Procreate to create the composition I wanted.

I spent hours arranging everything, adjusting the colours, shadows and positioning. Even the placement of the four eyes was deliberate. Every element was carefully considered.

At that point, I had a design I could comfortably tattoo from. But because it was assembled from different references, the image itself was patchy and clunky.

That’s where AI comes in.

I use it to bridge the gap between my finished design and a polished, presentable image that will appeal to potential clients. It doesn’t come up with the concept or make the creative decisions for me. It simply helps bring everything together visually.

My medium is tattooing, not digital illustration. I’d rather spend my time perfecting the tattoo than spending additional hours making a reference image look flawless.

For me, the tattoo is the finished artwork. The imagination, composition and creative direction are mine, and ultimately I’ll be creating it with my own hands.

I understand there are different opinions on the use of AI in art. You’re entitled to yours, just as I’m entitled to mine. We don’t have to agree with each other to respect each other’s perspective. The vitriol, the negativity, the threats and the harassment we have received over the last two days is not constructive.
