Tell me, are you someone who chooses skincare with your nose first, or do you prefer a product that simply takes care of your skin? 🌸👃🏻
Because apparently, our noses have a say in our skincare routine. And they don’t always vote in our skin’s best interests.
There is a reason behind it, and it goes deeper than simply enjoying a beautiful scent.
Our sense of smell has a direct connection to the brain’s limbic system, which plays an important role in emotions, memories and associations. A beautiful scent can evoke pleasure, comfort and even a sense of luxury before we’ve considered what a product actually does for our skin.
This is the principle behind sensory marketing: appealing to our emotions to make products more desirable.
There is absolutely a place for fragrance in our lives. Aromatherapy, for example, explores how aromatic compounds may support relaxation and well-being. I use natural essential oils myself, particularly when creating perfumes.
But skincare is a different story.
At Le Grá Skincare, I avoid adding fragrance purely to make my products smell beautiful. When I include essential oils, it’s for a specific purpose beyond their scent, taking into account their potential benefits and the skin’s tolerance.
🌸 Even natural fragrances and essential oils can trigger irritation or allergic reactions in some people.
🌿 Your skin doesn’t have to be impressed by your perfume choices. It needs ingredients that make sense.
