We were delighted to join Amal Women Ireland in celebrating their 10th anniversary, a decade of empowering women, fostering inclusion and building stronger communities.

Our colleagues Dallal Bounekdja and Wafa'a Abushark represented Cairde at this inspiring celebration, filled with energy, connection and a wonderful sense of community.

A particularly special moment was seeing Dallal's and Wafa'a's photographs featured and their contributions to the “Muslim Women in Ireland” project recognised!

It was a beautiful celebration of the stories, achievements and contributions of Muslim women in Ireland. It was also an important reminder of how important it is to create spaces where women's voices, experiences and perspectives are heard, valued and celebrated.

Congratulations to Amal Women Ireland on this fantastic milestone! We look forward to continuing our collaboration and supporting one another to empower women and strengthen our communities.

Lived experience is expertise. And it should help shape mental health services!

We were delighted to contribute to the HSE Ireland Mental Health Engagement and Recovery (MHER) Lived Experience Awareness Day Webinar on 13 October.

Cairde's Cleide Regina de Oliveira, Project Officer, and Emilia Marchelewska, Mental Health Lead, shared insights into the importance of meaningful participation of migrant and ethnic minority communities in shaping mental health services. Their message was clear: people who face barriers to accessing mental health support must also have a voice in shaping the services and policies that affect their lives.

Through Cairde's Migrant and Ethnic Minority Mental Health Engagement Forum, we work to ensure that lived experience is recognised, valued and translated into meaningful change towards more inclusive and culturally responsive mental health services.

Thank you to the HSE MHER team for organising the webinar and to everyone who contributed to this important conversation. If you missed it, the recording is now available, and we invite you to watch the discussion and hear how lived experience can help transform mental health services:

Today, 15 October, Cairde joins Mental Health Reform and organisations across Ireland in marking National Lived Experience Awareness Day, recognising the knowledge, expertise and contributions of people with lived experience of mental health challenges and recovery.

At Cairde, we see how valuable lived experience is in supporting migrant and ethnic minority communities, challenging stigma, breaking down barriers to mental health services and advocating for change.

Through our Peer Support and Advocacy services and Migrant & Ethnic Minority Mental Health Engagement Forum, we work to ensure that the voices of people from diverse backgrounds, particularly those too often unheard, help shape more inclusive, accessible and culturally responsive mental health services.

Nothing about us without us. People with lived experience must be heard and have a meaningful role in the decisions that affect their lives. Let's amplify these voices and build mental health services that reflect the needs and experiences of all our communities.

Join us for an online conversation on Post-Traumatic Growth.

📅 Thursday, 15 October | 7–8:30 pm ONLINE. Register now!

Cairde’s Migrant & Ethnic Minority Mental Health Engagement Forum will be joined by Ejiro Ogbevoen, Founder of Therapists Ireland, to explore how people may experience growth, meaning, connection, personal strength and new possibilities following adversity.

The conversation will also recognise that growth is neither an expectation nor a requirement after trauma.

The event is free and open to people with lived experience, family members, carers, community members, practitioners and anyone interested in mental health and improving services.

To mark National Lived Experience Awareness Day and World Mental Health Month, women involved in Cairde Balbriggan's programmes came together to connect, reflect and celebrate their shared journey.

It was an opportunity to recognise the challenges overcome, achievements made and valuable knowledge gained through lived experience. Together, we also planted daffodil bulbs as symbols of hope, growth and new possibilities.

Lived experience is a powerful source of knowledge and a driving force for change. Women in our community use their experiences to support others, share knowledge and help fellow community members navigate services.

Their voices also help shape more inclusive and responsive public services, including mental health services, and address health inequalities affecting minority ethnic communities. One way they contribute to this work is through Cairde’s Migrant and Ethnic Minority Mental Health Engagement Forum, where lived experience informs discussions on improving mental health services.

As the Roma Influencers Network project comes to a close, we are pleased to share two important project outputs:

--> Good Practices for the Prevention of Early Marriage and Early Motherhood in Roma Communities brings together promising approaches from Ireland, Greece, Portugal and Romania, highlighting the importance of education, healthcare, intercultural mediation, community participation and the leadership of Roma women.

--> Our Policy Recommendations build on the findings from all four countries to identify shared challenges and priorities for stronger, rights-based and community-centred policy responses.

Together, these resources aim to support lasting action to prevent early marriage and early motherhood and strengthen the rights, inclusion and participation of Roma women and girls.

Produced through the Erasmus+ Roma Influencers Network – Breaking the Circle of Early Marriages and Early Motherhood in Roma Communities project with Klimaka, Cesis - Centro de Estudos para a Intervenção Social, Sastipen - Centrul Romilor pentru Politici de Sanatate and COOPERACTIVA.
