What we have learned from our DMs with One Nation voters this week
Sometimes the comments are ugly, racist and cruel. But sometimes, when people move from public yelling into private messages, something else happens.
The tone changes. People tell us they are scared, tired and feeling ignored. They tell us they are worried about housing, wages, healthcare, their kids and their future. They tell us, in different ways, that people in power are not listening.
And here is the thing: many of them do not actually want, or even know, One Nationβs policies. What they want is relief. They believe someone is fighting for them, and One Nation knows this. So does Advance.
That is why their politics and marketing work. They take real fear and point the blame at the wrong people: migrants, First Nations people, trans people, women.
That is not a solution, it is a distraction.
Some people are too far gone in racism and conspiracy theory. We know that, because we see it every day. But we also believe there is still hope in reaching people who are angry, disillusioned and vulnerable to being recruited by hate, but who are not completely lost to it.
So our job is not just to call out hate, although we will keep doing that loudly. It is also to tell the truth better.
Housing is broken because governments allowed it to become a wealth machine. Wages are low because workers have been squeezed. Healthcare is stretched because public systems have been underfunded. People are struggling because inequality is political design.
Not because a refugee family found safety. Not because a migrant works hard. Not because First Nations people ask for justice. Not because trans people exist.
One Nation voters deserve better than One Nation. Australia deserves better than imported MAGA politics with a flag filter.
So yes, we will keep calling out racism, but we will also keep having the conversations where we can, because some people do change when they are met with truth, not just shame.
Hope over hate. Reason over rage. Solutions over slogans.
Drink water.
Tax billionaires.
Donβt vote racist.
