At Anu, our ethos is to provide safe and effective natural healthcare solutions with lasting results. In addition to tackling specific illnesses and complaints, our aim is to strengthen and improve your overall health, vitality and well being. Central to our approach, is the recognition that the body is an interconnected system, so rather than looking at one symptom or part of the body in isolation, we consider all aspects of a person’s health and medical history. We also recognise the inherent link between physical disease, and mental and emotional well-being, and so treat the whole person.

You don't need to have it figured out before you come in.

Most people can't describe what's wrong in a tidy sentence. That's normal, and working it out is part of the job.

Give a tight lower back some room.

On your back, draw one or both knees gently toward the chest. Hold easy — 20 to 30 seconds, a couple of times — and breathe. No cranking.

It opens the low back and eases the pull of a constant arch, which is why it works well after a long day on your feet or at a desk.

Sixty seconds. Save it.

We tend to assume better movement has to be taught.

It doesn't. Given quiet, safety and close attention, the body finds a better organisation on its own. My job is to arrange those conditions — not to instruct.

Most people arrive having already tried a few things.

Persistent pain, stiffness that won't shift, tension that keeps coming back, or something that's been going on long enough that they've stopped expecting an easy answer.

Your spine has 24 movers. Most of us use about six.

On hands and knees, slowly round the spine, then gently arch it — but bone by bone rather than as one block. Slow and smooth, led by the breath. Six to eight passes, no end-range forcing.

It restores the small, segment-by-segment motion a stiff back quietly loses, so the whole spine goes back to sharing the work instead of a few places doing all of it.

Two minutes, daily.

Most people feel different before they stand up. Not after a week — before they get off the table.

A session starts with noticing: a quiet check of how your body is right now, which becomes the baseline you'll feel the change against. Then very small movements, guided in words, usually beginning at a foot or the head. Move a little. Feel it. Release. The sensing happens in the pauses.

As effort drops toward nothing, the body finds a poised, balanced moment. People often describe it as floating, or settling.

Afterwards, standing feels easier. Subtle in the moment, clearer later.

Rock, don't stretch.

Gentle pelvic tilts mobilise a cranky back without loading it. Small, slow, no forcing.

Tired but wired? Two systems are pulling against each other.

Sleep pressure builds the longer you're awake. Your body clock decides when that pressure is allowed to land. Get those two out of step and you end up exhausted at 3pm and wide awake at 11.

Rocking, not stretching.

When a lower back is cranky, the instinct is to stretch it hard. Often the gentler thing works better: lie on your back with knees bent, and slowly rock the pelvis — gently flattening, then gently arching the low back. Small range. No forcing. Eight to ten slow rocks, breathing through it.

It mobilises the spine without loading it, which is why it's a good first move on a stiff morning or after too long sitting.

Save it for tomorrow morning.

A full gentle sequence is in the Lower Back Pain Quick Guide — anu-health.com/books. Move gently and stop if pain sharpens or shoots; seek help for numbness, weakness, or bladder or bowel changes.
