Constipation is one of the most common Mounjaro and Wegovy side effects, and one of the least talked about.

In the pooled Wegovy trials it affected 24.2% of people (vs 11.1% on placebo). It was mostly mild to moderate, with a median duration of about 47 days.

Why it happens: these medicines deliberately slow how fast your stomach empties. That's part of how they work, but slower transit plus eating less fibre can make for a sluggish bowel.

What many people find helps (and the HSE suggests): fluids first, fibre built up gradually (wheat bran, oats, linseed), a daily walk, and not ignoring the urge.

A short list worth memorising: severe or worsening belly pain especially with vomiting, no bowel movement for days with bloating, or blood in the stool. Contact a doctor promptly.

It's the kind of thing a doctor-supervised programme should help you with, rather than something to quietly tough out.

Which is right — weight-loss surgery or injections? The honest answer: it depends on your BMI, your health picture and what you'll sustain.

We compared the trial data, the HSE criteria, private costs and recovery side by side, so you can have a better conversation with your doctor: https://slimbr.com/blog/bariatric-surgery-vs-injections-ireland

Every conversation about Mounjaro and Ozempic is about starting. Almost none are about stopping — even though that's where the hardest work happens. The trials are clear that weight is typically regained without a maintenance plan. Here's what improves the odds: how to time the stop, protecting muscle, and building habits while you still have the medicine's help. If weight crept on through perimenopause while nothing else changed, it wasn't your imagination — and it wasn't a character flaw. Hormonal shifts change how the body stores fat and holds muscle. Understanding that points to what genuinely helps (and what doesn't). We wrote the full guide for Ireland: https://slimbr.com/blog/menopause-perimenopause-weight-gain-ireland

No judgment, just numbers: we counted the calories in Ireland's takeaway and pub classics — the spice bag, the breakfast roll, the 3-in-1, the carvery dinner. Some are what you'd expect; a few "healthy" options will catch you out. Knowledge beats guesswork when you're making choices. "Appetite suppressant" covers two very different things in Ireland: licensed prescription medicines assessed for safety and effect, and supplements free to make vaguer claims. Most of what's marketed at you is the second kind. We wrote the honest breakdown — what's licensed, what isn't, and what questions to ask before spending money: https://slimbr.com/blog/weight-loss-supplements-appetite-suppressants-ireland

Ozempic searches keep climbing in Ireland, and most of what surfaces is either hype or fear. Here's the plain version: what it costs, who can actually get it, why it's prescription-only, and how to spot the falsified pens the HPRA has warned about. If you've been wondering about the safe route in Ireland, this is the guide: https://slimbr.com/blog/ozempic-ireland

Semaglutide or keto? The internet declares winners daily, but the trials tell a calmer story: the landmark STEP 1 trial recorded 14.9% average body-weight loss over 68 weeks on semaglutide, while keto's pooled edge over other sensible diets is about 1.5–2 kg. Neither is a verdict — the right answer depends on your health history, budget and what you can sustain. We put both approaches side by side for Ireland: costs from month one, the muscle-loss question, side effects, and whether you can combine them (many clinicians say yes, protein-first). Your BMI has a blind spot. Visceral fat — stored deep around your liver and organs — is invisible to the scale, and it's the fat most associated with type 2 diabetes and heart disease. The good news: a 2-minute tape-measure check screens for it (waist 94cm+ for men, 80cm+ for women, or a waist more than half your height), and it's among the most responsive fat to the basics — walking, a modest calorie deficit, sleep, less alcohol. Our new guide covers the checks, the evidence, and where doctor-led treatment fits, for Ireland:

How many calories in a pint of Guinness? Fewer than most people guess — and fewer than most la**rs.

Diageo's published figure works out at about 199–210 kcal a pint (35 kcal per 100ml; an Irish pint is 568ml). A typical l***r pint runs ~180–222 kcal. Even Guinness 0.0 lands at ~97 kcal.

Our new guide sets out the full Irish drinks table — w**e, prosecco, spirits and mixers, with standard-drink counts — plus what the Mounjaro and Wegovy patient information leaflets actually say about alcohol (and why the answer to "can I drink on it?" belongs with your own doctor).
