Do you check where the toilets are before you go anywhere?

Maybe you think twice about travelling, going for a long walk or eating out because you're worried about your bowels.

It's something people don't always feel comfortable talking about.

But bowel urgency, unpredictable bowel movements and leakage can have a significant impact on everyday life.

And it's not just about the physical symptoms.

It's the worry, the planning and sometimes the loss of confidence that comes with not knowing how your bowels will behave.

There can be several reasons for these symptoms, and understanding what's contributing is important.

For some people, practical changes to bowel routines, nutrition and stool consistency can make a difference. Others may need more specialist assessment and treatment.

You shouldn't have to organise your entire life around your bowels without knowing what support is available.

We often celebrate productivity.

But we rarely celebrate recovery.

Yet recovery is where your body repairs.

Balances hormones.

Supports the immune system.

Processes stress.

Restores energy.

Recovery isn't time wasted.

It's one of the most productive things your body does.

Health doesn't need to feel complicated.

Your body is constantly responding to some very simple questions.

Am I safe?

Am I nourished?

Am I recovering?

Am I supported?

When those foundations are consistently met, many symptoms become much easier to understand—and often easier to improve.

Sometimes simplicity is exactly what's missing.

You can eat a low-histamine diet and still have a histamine problem. 🧬

This is such an important distinction that so many people miss.

Histamine isn't only something you consume. A dysbiotic microbiome can generate endogenous histamine and contribute to ongoing immune stimulation — meaning your histamine load has two sources:

🍽️ Histamine from food — aged foods, fermented foods, certain leftovers, alcohol, food intolerances
🦠 Histamine made in the gut — dysbiosis, gut inflammation, intestinal permeability, SIBO, mast cell activation

If someone focuses exclusively on food lists, they may only be addressing one piece of the puzzle.

One of my clients, Jennifer (41), described it perfectly: "I'd removed nearly every high-histamine food and still couldn't understand why I was reacting."

The key is looking at the whole picture, not just one piece.

Understand the root. Support the whole you. Expand your food freedom. 💚

This is one of the most validating conversations I have with women in clinic 💚

Women who have tried therapy, taken medication, worked on managing stress and anxiety, yet still don’t feel like themselves.

Because sometimes anxiety isn’t just about what’s happening in your mind. Sometimes it’s your body that’s generating the alarm 🧠

A racing heart, trembling, flushing, feeling constantly on edge or that something terrible is about to happen — even when there’s no obvious reason.

Hormonal fluctuations, histamine, blood sugar instability and nervous system dysregulation can all contribute to these physical sensations.

And when we start looking at how these systems interact, things can begin to make a lot more sense.

This doesn’t mean anxiety isn’t real or that psychological support isn’t important. It means there may be more to the picture than we’ve been looking at. 🌿

Understanding why your body is reacting can be an important part of helping it feel safe and regulated again.

I explore this gut–hormone–immune–nervous system connection in much more depth in my book When Your Body Whispers Before It Screams. 📖

We hear plenty about hot flushes, poor sleep and mood changes during perimenopause and menopause.

But what about our bowels?

For some women, this is when they start noticing more bloating, constipation or changes in how regularly their bowels work.

Hormonal changes may play a part, but there can be other contributing factors too.

Thyroid function, medication, sleep, stress, nutrition and activity levels all deserve consideration.

And because these changes can happen gradually, women sometimes put them down to getting older.

But persistent changes in bowel habits shouldn't automatically be dismissed as part of menopause.

Your bowel health is part of your overall health, and it's worth paying attention to.

🏐 ADHD in Sport – Are we always seeing someone’s true potential? 🧠

This is an area I’m particularly passionate about, both personally and professionally. The more we understand the different ways ADHD / AuADHD presents, the easier it becomes to recognise strengths that might otherwise be missed.

When people think of ADHD, they often picture someone who is constantly on the go, full of energy and unable to sit still.

But ADHD has different presentations – inattentive, hyperactive-impulsive and combined. And it’s often the inattentive presentation that goes unnoticed or is misunderstood.

A player might spend long periods on one side of the pitch with very little action around them. Their mind starts to wander, their concentration slips, and when the ball finally comes their way, they’re not fully tuned in.

They may appear uninterested, distracted or even less capable than other players.

Yet when the action is consistently around them, you may see a completely different player! More alert, focused, quick to react and showing their real abilities. 🌟

🧠 It’s not necessarily a lack of interest, effort or ability. It’s how their brain regulates attention, particularly when there’s very little happening to keep them engaged.

And this applies to adults as much as children.

💚 What we see during the quieter moments of a match doesn’t always reflect someone’s sporting ability or potential.

Sometimes there’s a lot more ability there than we’re getting to see 💚

There isn't one habit that creates good health.

It's the accumulation of many small ones.

Eating regularly.

Sleeping consistently.

Managing stress.

Moving your body.

Recovering well.

None of them have to be perfect.

But together they create an environment where your body has a much better opportunity to thrive.

The goal isn't to make your diet smaller and smaller. 🌿

Low histamine forever was never the goal.

When food causes symptoms, restriction can feel like the safest option:

🌱 Remove this.
🌱 Avoid that.
🌱 Don't eat leftovers.
🌱 Don't eat out.

And sometimes temporary restriction genuinely helps reduce symptom load. But the bigger question is: why has your tolerance become so low?

The longer-term aim is to understand the gut, histamine handling, mast-cell activity, hormones, and nervous system — so that where possible, the world of food can become bigger again, not smaller.

The journey looks like this:
Restricted → Reducing restriction → Growing tolerance → Food freedom

One of my clients, Ciara (37), said it so simply: "I wasn't trying to eat perfectly. I just wanted to eat normally again."

That's exactly what we work towards. 💚

It's not about a perfect diet. It's about a better relationship with food and your body.

A little behind-the-scenes update 🌿

I’ve been trying something new and I’m genuinely excited about the potential of it.

One of the most powerful things I see in practice is how much can change when women begin to understand their hormone patterns more clearly.

I already do a lot of this work with clients through tracking and journalling, because once you can see the patterns in mood, sleep, energy, digestion and cycle symptoms, things often start to make much more sense.

And when that understanding is there, it becomes much easier to make changes that truly support your hormones and overall wellbeing.

I’m still trying this out myself first before I introduce it properly to you all, but I’m very excited by what it could add.

More Coming REAL soon 💚
