Your Body Explained: Why does your body feel stiffer as you get older? 🚶‍♀️‍➡️🚶‍♂️‍➡️
Is stiffness just part of ageing?

Your muscles change. 💪
As we age, we naturally tend to lose some muscle mass and strength.
This can make every day movements feel more difficult, especially if we aren’t regularly active.

Your joints and connective tissues change.
Overtime, cartilage and other joint tissues can change, while tendons and ligaments may become less adaptable.
This can contribute to reduced flexibility and stiffness.

We often move less. 🪑
Sometimes, it’s not just ageing itself!
Spending more time sitting less time moving can contribute to stiffness and reduced mobility.

The good news?
Stiffness doesn’t have to define ageing.

Regular walking, stretching, strength training and gentle mobility exercises can help maintain flexibility, strength and independence. 🤗

FINAL TAKEAWAY
Getting older is inevitable. Losing your mobility isn’t necessary.
Standing, walking, stretching or simply changing position allows your joints and muscles to move differently.

WORLD OSTEOPOROSIS DAY | 20 OCTOBER

Osteoporosis is a condition that causes bones to become weaker and more fragile, increasing the risk of fractures.

As we get older, looking after our bone health becomes especially important for maintaining mobility, confidence and independence.

✨ What can you do to support your bones?

✔️ Include appropriate weight-bearing and strength exercises in your routine.

✔️ Practise balance exercises to help reduce the risk of falls.

✔️ Make sure you’re getting the nutrients your bones need.

✔️ Speak to a healthcare professional about your bone health and any individual risks.

At our clinic, we believe in supporting people to stay active, move safely and maintain their wellbeing at every stage of life.

Hands-on care may help address certain movement-related concerns, but people with osteoporosis need an individual assessment and appropriate precautions. Manual therapy alone does not prevent falls or fractures.

This World Osteoporosis Day, let’s take action for stronger bones and healthier movement. 🧡

What is Arthritis?

Arthritis is a term for conditions that affect the joints, often causing pain, stiffness and swelling.

Osteoarthritis is one of the most common forms. It involves changes in the whole joint, including cartilage and surrounding tissues.

It can affect every day activities like walking, climbing stairs, opening jars or getting out of a chair.

When joints feel sore or stiff, moving and seem like the last thing you want to do. But regular, appropriate exercise is one of the key ways to manage osteoarthritis.
Gentle and strengthening exercise exercises can help improve physical function, reduce pain overtime and support quality of life.

And osteopath can assess how joint pain is affecting your movement and every day life.

Manual therapy may be considered alongside exercise for some people with hip or knee osteoarthritis, but it is not a standalone treatment.

Looking after your joints doesn’t have to mean making big changes overnight. Try the simple habits mentioned above.

Your joints deserve care at every stage of life.
Living with arthritis doesn’t mean giving up on movement.

With the right support, guidance and a plan that works for you, you can work towards staying active and maintaining your independence.

Arthritis can cause pain, stiffness and reduced mobility, making even simple activities like walking, climbing stairs or getting out of a chair more challenging.

But living with arthritis doesn’t mean giving up on movement.

Regular, appropriate exercise and the right support can help people manage symptoms, maintain mobility and improve their quality of life.

At our clinic, we believe in taking a holistic approach to joint health, helping people find ways to stay active and supporting their overall wellbeing.

This World Arthritis Day, let’s remind ourselves that looking after our joints is an important part of looking after our health. 🧡
