Do you struggle with bloating?? β€πŸ™‹β€β™€οΈ

A Canadian study of 1800+ women found bloating & gas were the most common gut symptoms at every stage of menopause.

Bloating might seem like an insignificant issue but if your daily wardrobe choice is changing depending on how bloated your feel or if you feel really uncomfortable by the afternoon, it is no fun.

I'll be honest, if I had a magic bullet for bloating, I'd be able to retire a very rich lady but there is no 1 fix for everyone as there are various reasons for bloating so what works for your friend may not work for you.

❓Bacterial Imbalance - this could be SIBO or dysbiosis
❓A specific food intolerance like gluten or apples
❓Eating too quickly
❓Eating too late
❓Poor digestion
❓Constipation
❓Stress
❓Lack of movement
❓Hormonal fluctuations
Or it could be a combination of a few πŸ§πŸ€”

Bloating can be tricky to fully resolve but we can definitely help to identify the root cause and alleviate the symptoms.

Mounjaro will be the topic of conversation for an expert group in the HSE this week as they decide whether to fund the medication or not.

Last Saturday, I attended a really informative training conference organised by on GLP medications and we discussed the pros, cons, the risks and where these medications fit into the big picture.
Catching up with the tribe is always an added bonus .ryannt

My key take away is that these medications can be very beneficial for the 'right' people (big topic for another time) and can be really harmful if not used appropriately.

BUT medications don't replace the need for good nutrition & lifestyle habits, it actually means that users need to be more vigilant to prevent malnourishment, sarcopenia and osteoporosis...........weight loss might be important but having a long & healthy life is too.

We are currently in Week 3 of the Health Eating for Weight Loss course and we are helping the course participants understand how to nourish their bodies long term whether they are using these medications currently or not.

Being a business owner can be really tough going & working in nutrition in a world where we are bombarded with information can also be really hard so getting feedback like this makes me do a little happy dance.
I know how much my work helps people but I am so very grateful when my clients take the time to share their experience with the public.
Thank you so much Aine

"I did several sessions with Linda after a health scare, I felt overwhelmed with conflicting information online and didn't know what steps to take to get healthier. She broke everything down into simple, maintainable habits with supporting diet advice and gave supplement advice that has genuinely helped reduce my symptoms. She is so encouraging, non-judgmental and really cares about her clients. If you want someone who actually listens and gives advice that works, go to her. Thank you Linda from Γ€ine"

Are you waking up feeling stiff with sore knees or hips, achy muscles and joints?

You're not imagining it. Aches and joint pain can become more common during perimenopause and menopause because the drop in oestrogen can influence joints, muscles, connective tissue and inflammation, I recently had a frozen shoulder & it was ZERO craic!

However, you don't have to put up with symptoms like this.....I say it all the time, your nutrition & lifestyle can help you feel better! FYI, I needed physio to sort me out.

πŸ₯— Choose an anti-inflammatory nutrition 9most of the time) - More colourful plants, Omega-3-rich foods especially oily fish, herbs, spices and fibre.

πŸ’ͺ Eat enough protein & strength - supporting muscle mass, strength and healthy ageing. SO many women talk to me about specific issues.....and the majority are living on carbs & not eating enough.

🦴 Add bone & joint supporting nutrients - not just calcium, your bones needs Vitamin D, magnesium and vitamin K too.

βš–οΈ If you need to, try & maintain a healthy weight & stable blood glucose levels because we are trying to reduce systemic inflammation & these 2 factors matter.

😴 Sleep - check if you are going to bed on time to get at least 7hrs sleep & consider are you drinking too much caffeine or alcohol which is impacting sleep quality....sleep deprivation is a killer! Before you say caffeine doesn't affect you, try 2 weeks caffeine free and lets discuss it thenπŸ˜€

Because one size does not fit all so not everything is applicable but they are worth considering. Menopausal symptoms are not something you have to "put up with".
Small, sustainable changes can make a real difference to how you feel.

πŸ’¬ If you are already doing every right and nothing is working, get in touch & lets see how we can help you.

Hands up if you eat pretty well, go to the gym every week and still can't shift those last few pounds or the bloating that shows up every afternoon? πŸ™‹β€β™€οΈ

You're far from alone. I see it in clinic all the time and I'm no different.

Most "healthy" people are doing lots of things right, but there are usually 1 or 2 habits quietly dragging them down.
It might be:

πŸ‘‰ Skipping breakfast & lunch & then grazing all evening
πŸ‘‰ Grabbing McDonalds more frequently than you intend because the fridge is empty
πŸ‘‰ Watching 1 more episode even though you promised yourself you would be in bed at a certain time
πŸ‘‰ Having just 1 more coffee instead of a glass of water
πŸ‘‰ Eating really well midweek and devouring a sharing bag of crisps on friday night (all on your own).....this was me!!
πŸ‘‰ Scroll on your phone instead of going for a walk because its drizzling

On their own they don't look like much. But if you have a health goal you're trying to achieve, whether that's weight loss or something less visible like digestive discomfort, these are very often the missing piece.

The good news?

You don't need to overhaul everything. Identifying your 1 or 2 and making small, steady changes can be a real game changer.

Tip: If you don't know already, for one week, jot down what you eat, when you eat, how you slept & how you felt afterwards. The patterns show up quicker than you'd think.

If you'd like help figuring out what's holding you back, feel free to get in touch.

For those wondering, I've starting buying small bags of crisps for myself, not a sharing bag that I don't shareπŸ˜€

πŸ’“Heart disease remains one of Ireland’s biggest health challenges.

In 2024, cardiovascular disease (CVD) was responsible for over 10,000 deaths in Ireland β€” more than one in four of all deaths nationwide.

Perhaps more striking is that in around 75% of heart attack cases, the event was the very first sign that something was wrong. There was no earlier diagnosis, no warning. And yet the estimates that up to 80% of premature CVD deaths are preventable.

This is fabulous news!! πŸ’•πŸŽ‰

This weekend, check out the article I wrote earlier this month about how to support your heart health. It is linked in my bio here on you can find it on the website.

❌ Myth: 'A walk doesn't count as real exercise.'

βœ… Fact: Regular walking lowers blood pressure, improves insulin sensitivity, supports healthy cholesterol and reduces heart disease risk β€” consistently, and it's one of the few forms of movement almost everyone can access. And, it is probably the easiest way to start exercising for those who would like to loose weight.

You don't need 10,000 steps to see benefit. Even 20-30 minutes most days makes a measurable difference. Where could you fit a short walk into today?

Yes, other exercise is good too but don't exclude walking.

Top Tip
Start today - just 15mins at lunchtime!

I am not one for scare mongering and I most definitely avoid labelling any food as good or bad with 1 exception: Artificial Sweeteners!

Now before I continue, please know that we cannot avoid sweeteners completely and it is not necessary. I am highlighting this study as some people will choose the diet or low sugar version intentionally thinking it is a healthier choice.

"A large prospective study has linked consumption of six artificial sweeteners with faster decline in global cognition, particularly in memory & verbal fluency domains, in participants under age 60 during 8 years of follow up. The sweeteners were aspartame, saccharin, acesulfame k, erythritol, sorbitol and xylitol".

The main source of these
πŸ‘‰ Sweeteners that you add to your food
πŸ‘‰ Diet Minerals
πŸ‘‰ Flavoured water
πŸ‘‰ No added sugar cordial
πŸ‘‰ Sugar free yogurts

As I previously mentioned, you can't avoid these completely but this study studied the risk associated with the highest intake so my recommend is to reduce where possible

A better alternative might be
βœ… Replace sweeteners by swoping back to sugar, honey or maple syrup depending on your usage.
βœ… Try chicory root syrup which tastes really sweet but is a low sugar & high fibre syrup alternative.
βœ… Reduce (gradually) the need for the sugar / sweetener in your food / drinks.
βœ… Reduce mineral intake / flavoured water to less frequently.
βœ… Replace minerals with Kombucha or sparkling water as an alternative.
βœ… Reduce cordial intake to less frequently.
βœ… Replace cordials with sparkling water with sliced lemon / lime or herbal tea.
βœ… Yogurts - there are many brands available but has a lovely range without artificial ingredients but check out your supermarket for options that will suit you.

There are products which contain artificial sweeteners in my pantry like everyone else and I'm OK with that but if you consume alot, maybe see if you can find a better replacement.

If I had to choose 1 food, I think it might have to be soup 🍲, or maybe baked potatoes πŸ₯”!

I love soup because it is so versatile, tasty & nutritious and if you use my top tip, it is so quick to make too.

When I buy celery & leeks, I prep all of what I've bought & I freeze mixed bags of celery & leek ready for use in soups & stews. This is my kind of food prep because it allows me to make a batch of soup in 10mins in the morning, ready for lunch that day. It also saves on food waste as I will never use a full head of celery in 1 go.
I used a mixture of chestnut & oyster mushrooms that I got from at @.

I know I have given quantities in this recipe but I tend to vary it depending on what I have so don't panic too mush, especially for something like soup.

Remember though that a bowl of soup if not a full lunch, it is 1 or 2 portions of veg depending on your portion size and you still need to add protein and carbs so serve with some brown bread and chicken breast with cucumber & tomatoes to achieve a balanced plate.
