Know the signs: ingrown toenails 👣

When the edge of a nail starts pressing into the skin, it can go from a little uncomfortable to properly painful very quickly.

What to look out for:
Pain or tenderness along the side of the toe
Redness at the nail edge
Swelling around the toe

Please don't dig at it or cut into the corner yourself. That usually makes things worse and raises the risk of infection. Early treatment can stop it getting worse, and if you have diabetes, it's worth getting it seen sooner rather than later.

Know the signs: fungal nail infection 🦶

Fungal nail infections can slowly change the colour, thickness and texture of your nails. They're very common, and they rarely clear up on their own.

What to look out for:
Yellow, white or brown nails
Thick or crumbly nails
Nails lifting or hard to cut

Toenails grow slowly, so starting treatment early gives it the time it needs to work. At Harbour Foot Clinic, treatment starts with an assessment. Thickened nails are reduced safely, and you'll leave with clear aftercare advice for home.

Know the signs: verrucae 👣

A verruca is a small viral growth that usually appears on the sole of the foot. They're easy to pick up in changing rooms, swimming pools and anywhere people walk barefoot.

What to look out for:
A small, hard spot on the sole
Tiny black dots in the centre
Pain when standing or walking

Some verrucae clear up on their own, but others hang around for months and can spread. If yours is sore, growing or just won't budge, verruca treatment at Harbour Foot Clinic in Mullingar can help.

Cold weather, warm care 🧦

Central heating, cold air and winter boots can leave heels dry, hard and cracked, even if they looked fine all summer. Left alone, cracks can deepen and get sore.

A few simple habits help:
Moisturise your heels every day (not between your toes)
Pop a pair of cotton socks on over the cream at night
Choose boots that don't rub at the back of the heel

If the skin is already thick or cracking, heel care at Harbour Foot Clinic gently reduces the hard skin so your cream can actually do its job.

Autumn in the Midlands means wet walks, damp boots and feet stuck in socks all day 🍂

Four easy habits to keep them happy this season:

1. Dry between your toes after every wash. Damp skin there is where fungal problems start.
2. Change damp socks quickly. Wool or moisture-wicking socks help keep feet drier.
3. Rotate your footwear. Give boots 24 hours to dry out between wears.
4. Moisturise your heels, not between your toes. It keeps skin supple without trapping moisture.

"Walking on air now." We love hearing this 💜

So many people put up with sore feet for years because they feel nervous about getting them looked at. If that sounds like you, you're not alone, and there's no need to wait any longer. Every appointment is calm, unhurried and explained step by step, so you always know what's happening.

Thank you so much for the kind words, [first name]. Eamonn was delighted to help!

Corns and calluses often get lumped together, but they're not quite the same. Swipe to see the difference.

Both are your skin's way of protecting itself from pressure and friction, usually from footwear. The problem is they keep building up, and corns in particular can hurt with every step.

Please don't reach for a blade or a medicated corn plaster. Both can damage the healthy skin around the problem area.

We gently reduce corns and hard skin as part of routine foot care and our medical pedicure. Book through the link in our bio or call 087 232 5143.

If you spent the summer hiding a toenail, this is your sign.

Toenails grow slowly, so a nail affected by fungal infection takes a long time to grow out, even with the right treatment. Starting now gives your nails the whole winter and spring to improve before sandal season comes around again.

Signs worth getting checked:
Yellow, white or brown discolouration
Nails that are thick or crumbly
Nails that are lifting or hard to cut

Treatment at Harbour Foot Clinic starts with an assessment. Thickened nails are reduced safely, and you'll leave with clear aftercare advice for home.

New shoes, PE and changing rooms. The first few weeks back are tough on feet.

Three quick checks worth doing this week:

1. Press the front of their new shoes. You want about a thumb's width of space in front of the longest toe.
2. Look at the edges of the big toenails. Redness or tenderness can be the start of an ingrown nail.
3. Check the soles for small, hard spots with tiny black dots. That's often a verruca.

If anything doesn't look right, we see children as well as adults at our Mullingar clinic. Book through the link in our bio or call 087 232 5143.
