We often expect healing to announce itself.

A breakthrough. A moment when suddenly everything feels different.

But much of the change I notice in this work is quieter.

Sometimes there is more space before you react. What once overwhelmed you takes up less of you. You hear your voice more clearly or remain present when you once would have disappeared from the moment.

Those shifts matter.

In my work with intuitive energy healing and shamanic practice, I make room for healing to unfold at each person’s pace, listening for what is already beginning to move.

Quiet change is still change.

Have you ever realized that something in you had changed only after noticing one of these smaller shifts?

You don't have to go anywhere to reach the other worlds. 🌳

In shamanic practice, we work with three realms: the Lower World, the Middle World, and the Upper World.

The Tree of Life offers a powerful way of understanding that relationship.

Its roots reach into the underworld.
Its trunk stands in this world.
Its branches reach toward the heavens.

But there is another way I understand the Tree of Life in my work.

You are the tree.

When you come fully into your body, rooted and present, you become the meeting place between worlds.

The body doesn’t have to be something we leave behind in order to journey. It can be the axis from which the journey begins.

Every realm is reachable from right where you stand.

Rooted below.
Present here.
Open above.

The doorway was never outside you.

Where do you feel most rooted?

When everything changes before you can catch up.

For much of my life, I thought of change as one thing ending and another beginning. Then I entered a season when nearly every part of my life seemed to change at once.

My husband, John, died. Not long afterward, I lost my job. So much of my identity had been connected to my career that when it ended, part of who I believed myself to be seemed to disappear with it.

The future I had imagined no longer existed. At the time, I could see only what had fallen away.

I didn’t yet understand what was quietly taking shape beneath the grief and uncertainty of that life transition. That liminal season would eventually carry me toward unexpected places, people who would become deeply meaningful to me, and experiences I could never have imagined from where I stood then.

The life that emerged still carries my grief. It also holds possibilities I could not see while I was living through the change.

I share this because so many of us eventually find ourselves standing in a life we no longer recognize, wondering what comes next.

Have you ever gone through a season when everything changed at once? What did you discover in the in-between?

A Life in Practice • Part 2

This happened to me this week.

My back began hurting, and I couldn’t connect it to anything in particular. Then I realized that the anniversary of my late husband John’s death was approaching. Today is that anniversary.

I can’t know with certainty whether the two are connected, but the timing made me pause and listen.

Sometimes a meaningful date, season, place, or memory stirs something in the body before the conscious mind understands what is happening. It may show up as tension, pain, fatigue, emotion, restlessness, or simply feeling different.

A death anniversary is one example. Our bodies may also respond around a separation, an illness, a major transition, or another experience that changed us.

Sometimes awareness itself is a form of care.

Has your body ever seemed to remember something before you consciously did?

Some places seem to reach us before we know anything about them.
I have had that experience more than once since coming to Ireland.
Sometimes I later learn something about the history of a place that gives context to what I felt. Sometimes I don’t.
I have learned not to rush to explain every response I have to land.
Sometimes the practice is simply to notice, listen, and allow a relationship with a place to develop over time.

Have you ever been somewhere that affected you immediately, before you knew why?

The way I work with someone begins before any technique.

It begins with listening.

I have trained in more than six healing modalities, but I do not believe a person should have to fit themselves into a particular method.

Sometimes the work may include intuitive energy healing. Sometimes shamanic practice, sound, grounding, conversation, silence, or something else may be called for.

The method should serve the person, not the other way around.

That is a part of what intuitive energy healing means in my practice. I meet you where you are and allow the work to respond to what is actually present.

What helps you feel most supported when you are working with a practitioner?

Shamanism is probably not what you think it is.

For me, shamanic practice is not about escaping ordinary life or having special answers.

It is about relationship.

Relationship with ourselves. With the body. With the natural world. With spirit. And with the parts of our experience we may have stopped listening to.

The deeper I have gone into this work, the more I have come to see listening itself as a practice.

What comes to mind when you hear the word shamanism?

Five years ago, I could not have imagined that I would be sitting on the west coast of Ireland calling it home.
A lot has happened in those years. Loss. Change. Unexpected joy. A life that took turns I could never have planned.
And I realized that if I am going to talk here about shamanic practice, intuitive energy healing, writing, poetry and the work I do, it might help to tell you a little about the life that brought me here.
So this is the beginning of a small series. Not polished. Just pieces of the journey, one at a time.
Maybe something in mine will resonate with something in yours.

Balance can be found in unexpected places.

Watching the waves move in and out, I was drawn to these stones resting together on the shore. A small reminder that steadiness doesn’t always mean trying hard. Sometimes it’s finding a place to rest while life keeps moving around us.

Where have you found a moment of balance lately?
