I was mesmerised by the spray from the waves on the beach this morning.

They made me pause, take a deep breath & take it all in.

There’s beauty everywhere. Sometimes it’s just about how you choose to look at things.

Of course you know how to breathe! It’s automatic.

But have you ever stopped to think about how you breathe?

👃Nose or mouth breathing at rest?
😮‍💨 Are you taking bigger breaths than you need?
😐 Do you hold your breath without realising?
😤 Does your breathing change when you feel stressed?
🏃🏻‍♀️How does your breathing change during exercise?
😴 Do you snore or regularly wake up with a dry mouth?

With the demands of modern life, many of us have developed breathing habits that may not be serving us well.

This is where functional breathing comes in.

Through my 1:1 sessions, I help people understand their breathing patterns and learn practical techniques to support relaxation, stress management and exercise.

Because knowing how to breathe and understanding how you breathe aren’t quite the same thing.

Curious about learning more about your own breathing? Pop me a DM to find out more about my 1:1 sessions.

You’re not here to please everyone, meet everyone’s expectations or make yourself smaller to keep others happy.

Set boundaries.
Protect your peace.
Stop shrinking yourself to keep others happy.

You’re not selfish for putting your mental health first. ❤️

💫Our worry box 💫

This little box lives on my locker, and it’s become a really lovely way for my 9 year old to share anything that’s worrying or bothering him.

If there’s something on his mind that he doesn’t know how to bring up with me or his Dad, he can write it down and pop it in the box.

Every night before bed, I check it, and if there’s a worry inside, we make time to sit down and chat about it.

Sometimes it can be easier for children to write something down than to find the words to say it out loud. I’m no parenting expert, but this has been working really well for us. ❤️

I share this because I think it’s important to be honest about the fact that knowing these techniques doesn’t mean you never experience anxiety.

I know what it’s like to live with severe anxiety. The techniques I teach are ones that have helped me personally, and that I continue to use.

🌟🌟A reminder that the tools we practise during the good moments can be the ones that help us during the difficult ones. 🌟🌟

Anyone else obsessed with clouds, or is it just me? ☁️

Another habit I’ve built is to stop and look up at the clouds every day. It gives me a moment away from whatever is going on in my day.

And if something as simple as looking at the sky helps you get out of your head and be present for even a few seconds, isn’t that better than nothing?

Sometimes it’s the little things that bring us back to the present moment.

Better sleep isn’t just about what I do before bed. It’s also about the habits I build throughout the day.

These are four of the things I do to support my sleep, and they’re habits I’ve worked on consistently over time.

They’re also some of the things I work on with clients in my 1:1 sessions, particularly when sleep is something they’d like support with.

Small, consistent changes can be a good place to start.

I also have a few evening habits that support my sleep, but that’s a post for another time. 😴
