Eating disorder treatment has two essential strands — psychological and nutritional.
But it takes far more than two people.

At the Irish Eating Disorders Centre, those two strands sit within a wider specialist team, including psychologists, specialist dietitians, psychotherapists, support workers and psychiatry.

Different expertise. One team. One treatment plan.
All under one roof.

Not all back-to-school worries are about schoolwork.

For some children, changes in routine can have an impact on eating, feeding, mealtimes, and overall wellbeing.

Earlier mornings, different schedules, social pressures, busy classrooms, unfamiliar expectations, and tiredness can all make the adjustment period feel harder.

This doesn't mean something is going wrong.

Transitions can be difficult even when a child is looking forward to returning to school.

Over the first few weeks, it can help to:
👉Keep expectations realistic
👉Allow time for your child to settle into new routines
👉Notice changes with curiosity rather than alarm
👉Maintain as much predictability as possible at home
👉Remember that adjustment takes time

If things feel a little more challenging for a while, you're not alone.

Many families find that September requires patience, flexibility, and plenty of self-compassion.

Why Therapeutic Alliance Matters in Eating Disorder Therapy

The therapeutic alliance isn’t something that happens before treatment. It is part of the treatment.

Trust creates the safety needed to challenge deeply established patterns, tolerate discomfort and begin to consider change.

Without therapeutic engagement, even the best intervention has nowhere to land.
