Advancing breast cancer care through innovation, early detection and personalized treatment 💗

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we’re highlighting the groundbreaking work taking place at Hadassah Medical Organization, where cutting-edge technology and comprehensive patient care are transforming the approach to breast cancer.

Led by Dr. Tanir Allweis, Head of the Breast Health Center for Excellence at Hadassah Hospital Ein Kerem, Hadassah is introducing Mirai, an AI-powered tool designed to analyze mammograms and predict breast cancer risk up to five years in advance. Initially being implemented for research, this innovation could pave the way for more personalized screening and earlier detection.

Beyond technology, Hadassah provides 360-degree breast cancer care, bringing together diagnosis, treatment, specialized support and survivorship programs to support women at every stage of their journey.

For 40 years, the Ina and Jack Kay Hospice at Hadassah Hospital Mount Scopus has been dedicated to one profound purpose: bringing comfort, dignity and meaning to every moment of life.

Caring for approximately 220 patients each year, the hospice provides compassionate end-of-life care centered not only on a patient’s illness, but on the person behind it — their story, their identity, their wishes and the people they love.

“At the end of life, everyone is the same — everybody asks that their suffering be alleviated and battles the same anxieties and fears,” says Dr. Daniel Azoulay, head of palliative service and responsible for the Hospice Department.

Patients and their families are supported by an interdisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, volunteers, therapists, a chaplain and other specialists, with families welcomed to remain alongside their loved ones around the clock.

From answering the most difficult questions to creating moments of connection through music, conversation and simply being present, the hospice seeks to make the time patients have as meaningful as possible.

As Dr. Azoulay beautifully puts it: “The patient may have little time to live, but we must fill that time with life.”

As Hadassah marks 40 years of the hospice, we honor the extraordinary teams who continue to care for every patient with humanity, compassion and dignity.

Innovation at Hadassah starts with the people who experience the challenges of hospital care firsthand.

At the first awards ceremony for the Hadassah Medical Organization’s Year of Innovation, 128 employee-generated ideas were recognized for their potential to improve patient care, hospital efficiency and the overall healthcare experience.

Among the standout projects were:

- The Bondchair Solution — a specialized wheelchair with an integrated newborn “nest,” designed to make postpartum transfers safer while keeping mother and baby together.

- ED QI 360 — a digital system for the emergency department that helps teams monitor patient flow, report near misses and identify bottlenecks in real time.

- “Now What?” — an AI-powered tool that turns complex post-procedure instructions into a clear, personalized plan for follow-up care.

One of the most remarkable takeaways: 42% of the submitted ideas came from administrative staff, showing that innovation can emerge from every corner of the hospital.

Led by Prof. Chaim Lotan, HMO’s chief innovation officer, the Year of Innovation initiative is creating a framework to help strong ideas move from everyday challenges to practical solutions — and potentially to the global stage.

Because at Hadassah, innovation is not only about breakthrough technology. It is also about listening to the people closest to the problem and giving them the tools to build something better.

When crisis hits, hospitals have to do more than respond — they have to stay ready, adaptable and fully operational.

In this upcoming webinar, leaders from Hadassah Medical Center will share how their teams prepare for some of the most demanding emergency scenarios, including wartime conditions, mass-casualty events and ballistic threats.

The discussion will explore how Hadassah strengthens hospital readiness across every level — from leadership and staffing to emergency care, pediatrics, trauma response, simulations and rapid expansion of patient capacity.

This is an opportunity to learn from real-world experience and see how preparation, teamwork and clinical expertise come together when the pressure is at its highest.

Join us to learn how Hadassah prepares today for the emergencies of tomorrow.

A new research grant is helping Hadassah advance the future of transplant medicine.

Hadassah hospitals’ Transplant Unit has been awarded a grant from the Israel Science Foundation to study liver aging and the role telomere dysfunction may play in liver and lung disease.

Led by Dr. Abed Khalaileh and Dr. Ashraf Imam, together with Dr. Dudy Tzfati of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, the research aims to deepen understanding of how organs age and explore new ways to improve transplant care.

The findings could help physicians assess donor livers more precisely, expand the potential use of organs from older donors, and support the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for transplant patients.

As one of Israel’s largest transplant units, Hadassah continues to turn complex clinical challenges into research that can ultimately improve patient care.

Could phage therapy help fight infections that are becoming harder to treat with antibiotics?

Researchers from Hadassah Medical Organization and The Hebrew University of Jerusalem are part of a major international trial studying personalized bacteriophage therapy for recurrent, antibiotic-resistant urinary tract infections.

Backed by a $17 million EU grant, the study brings together 20 partners across 13 countries and will include around 220 women with chronic E. coli infections.

By using viruses that specifically target bacteria, researchers hope to develop more precise treatment options and advance the global fight against antimicrobial resistance.

Hadassah continues to help bring promising medical innovation closer to patient care.

Hadassah is helping shape the future of biomedical innovation in Israel—and beyond.

Hadassah Medical Organization and its tech transfer and innovation company, Hadasit, are proud founding partners of the newly launched Israel National Biotech Innovation Center (INBI), a major collaboration bringing together 15 of Israel’s leading research hospitals, universities and healthcare organizations.

The goal: to help turn groundbreaking scientific discoveries into real therapeutic opportunities that can ultimately reach patients around the world.

INBI is designed to bridge one of the most important gaps in biomedical innovation—the space between an academic breakthrough and the investment, development and partnerships needed to move that discovery closer to treatment.

For Hadassah, being part of this initiative reflects a long-standing commitment to research, collaboration and translating medical innovation into meaningful patient impact.

At Hadassah International, we are proud to amplify the role Hadassah continues to play in advancing science, strengthening Israel’s life sciences ecosystem and helping create the treatments of tomorrow.

From discovery to development to patient care, this is how innovation becomes impact.

Hadassah continues to serve as a global hub for medical knowledge, training and collaboration. 💙

A royal delegation from South Africa recently visited Hadassah Hospital Ein Kerem to explore future medical cooperation and learn more about Hadassah’s approach to clinical excellence, international training and humanitarian outreach.

The delegation met with Hadassah leaders to discuss strengthening medical expertise, building long-term professional relationships and expanding opportunities for physicians to train in Jerusalem and bring that knowledge back to their communities.

At Hadassah International, we are proud to help build these meaningful connections and lasting medical partnerships across borders.
