C-section rates have increased over the years, but does that mean they are being overused? Not necessarily.
A Cesarean delivery may be recommended when it is medically safer for the mother, baby, or both. Some common reasons include:
🔹 Baby in an unfavorable position
🔹 Fetal distress or concerns about the baby’s wellbeing
🔹 Placenta-related complications
🔹 Certain high-risk pregnancies
🔹 Previous C-section in some cases
🔹 Labour that is not progressing safely
🔹 Multiple pregnancy or other pregnancy complications
However, every pregnancy is different. A C-section should be recommended based on the individual medical situation—not simply because it is considered easier or more convenient.
