You were told to eat fewer carbs for insulin resistance and PCOS.
So you removed roti, stopped eating rice, and switched to “low-carb” meals… yet you’re still hungry soon after eating, craving sweets in the afternoon, and struggling with energy.
That’s where I ask my clients to stop looking at carbs in isolation.
With PCOS, what matters is what you eat with your carbs, how much protein your meal contains, and your overall eating pattern.
• Poha alone is different from poha paired with eggs, paneer or soy chunks.
• A fruit at 4 PM is different from having it with almond butter and pumpkin seeds.
The same applies to roti, rice, oats and potatoes. Pairing carbs with protein, healthy fats and fibre can help improve satiety and support a steadier blood sugar response.
What I look for in my PCOS clients:
• Is there enough protein to keep you satisfied?
• Are you pairing complex carbs with the right protein and fat sources? Sweet potato with paneer, curd or peanut butter can be a great option.
• Are you cutting carbs so aggressively that you end up overeating later?
Insulin resistance management isn’t about eliminating one food. It’s about building balanced, sustainable meals that support your appetite, energy and metabolic health.
You don’t need to fear carbs. You need to learn how to build a better meal around them.
