THE LOTUS OF KARMA
PART 2 — WHY DOES BRAHMA SIT ON A LOTUS?
In Hindu tradition, Brahma is associated with creation and is traditionally depicted seated on a lotus. What can we learn from this image when we look at it with an open mind? The lotus grows in muddy water yet rises above the surface and blossoms. We can understand it as a symbol of growth, creation, and the possibility of rising above difficult circumstances.
Our lives also begin under conditions we have not chosen. We cannot select our birthplace, our family circumstances, or every experience that comes our way. Yet we can continue learning, developing understanding, and improving the way we respond to life.
The lotus does not deny the existence of mud. It reminds us that the presence of difficulty does not eliminate the possibility of growth. We can respect the spiritual symbolism of Brahma and the lotus while also exploring its practical meaning for human life. Let us become creators of better possibilities through knowledge, awareness, and responsible action.
