Knee Osteoarthritis: Don’t Wait Until Surgery Is Your Only Option

Recently, a patient told me he couldn’t fully enjoy his child’s wedding because of severe knee pain.

This is the reality for many people with knee osteoarthritis. Some seek help only after their condition has progressed significantly and they are told that surgery may be their only option.

But there can be a window of opportunity in knee osteoarthritis when timely evaluation and appropriate treatment may help manage pain, preserve function, and potentially delay the need for surgery.

Depending on the severity and cause of your knee pain, treatment options may include:

🔹 Intra-articular injections
🔹 Steroid injections, when appropriate
🔹 PRP and other orthobiologic treatments
🔹 Bone marrow concentrate procedures
🔹 Cooled radiofrequency treatments

Many of these procedures can be performed as minimally invasive, outpatient treatments, depending on the individual case.

Don’t let knee pain keep you from the moments that matter. If you have persistent knee pain, getting evaluated early may give you more treatment options.

Pain Means You Should Stop Exercising? Not Always.

Pain during or after exercise doesn’t automatically mean you need to stop. The key is understanding what kind of pain you’re experiencing and how your body responds to movement.

Some discomfort can occur with muscle fatigue or delayed-onset soreness, while sharp, worsening, or persistent pain may signal an injury that needs attention.

Listen to your body, modify the activity when needed, and seek professional evaluation if pain continues or affects your movement.

⚠️ Your Back Pain Might Not Just Be Back Pain

Could it be sciatica? Watch for these 3 signs:

1️⃣ Pain that travels down your leg
If pain shoots past your knee toward your foot, it may involve the sciatic nerve.

2️⃣ Numbness or tingling
Pins-and-needles, numbness or unusual sensations in your leg or foot can indicate nerve involvement.

3️⃣ Certain movements trigger a sharp jolt
Sitting for long periods, bending forward or even sneezing may worsen radiating leg pain in some people.

🔎 Back pain and sciatica can have different causes, so symptoms should be properly evaluated.

If you’re experiencing persistent or radiating pain, don’t rely only on painkillers and rest. Get a proper clinical evaluation to understand the cause.

Regenerative Cell Therapy for Sports Injuries: What You Should Know

Sports injuries can affect muscles, tendons, ligaments, cartilage and joints. While conventional treatments remain the mainstay for many injuries, Regenerative cell therapy uses cells or cell-based products with the aim of supporting the body’s natural repair processes. Depending on the injury and the therapy being considered, the approach may involve cells derived from sources such as bone marrow or adipose tissue.

However, regenerative cell therapy is not a one-size-fits-all treatment. Its suitability depends on the type, severity and location of the injury, along with the available clinical evidence for that particular condition.

A proper evaluation and an evidence-based treatment plan are essential before considering any regenerative therapy.

🩻 Disc Bulge on Your MRI? It Doesn’t Always Mean Back Pain.

A disc bulge can appear on an MRI even when a person has no pain or symptoms.

The disc bulge itself isn’t always the source of pain. Symptoms may also be related to factors such as inflammation, nerve irritation or muscle spasm.

So, if your MRI shows a disc bulge, don’t panic. An MRI report alone doesn’t tell the complete story.

What matters is the combination of your symptoms, clinical examination and functional limitations.

👨‍⚕️ The goal is to understand what is actually causing your pain—not simply treat an MRI finding.

If you’ve been told you have a disc bulge and aren’t sure what to do next, get your symptoms properly evaluated.

Should you ice every injury?

Not necessarily.

Ice can provide short-term pain relief and may help reduce swelling after some acute injuries. But reaching for an ice pack automatically isn't always the best approach.

The right management depends on what happened, how severe the injury is, and how long ago it occurred.

Before you ice, ask:
✔️ What type of injury is this?
✔️ Is there significant swelling or pain?
✔️ Is movement difficult?
✔️ Could this be more than a simple sprain or strain?

When in doubt, get the injury assessed rather than treating every injury the same way.

Have you always reached for ice after an injury? Tell us below. 👇
